5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, 12 April 2006
I absolutely loved this book, it is fascinating, at times very funny, and often extremely sad. Gerry Adams is a really good story teller. Shame one can't occasionally pause while reading and ask him a question! I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.

5.0 out of 5 stars An autobiography and a social/political history of Belfast, 16 Nov 2005
A recommended read for anyone who is interested in the social history of Belfast in the days before the troubles and the role of republicans in the years that have passed since. Much is written about Gerry Adams the republican and politician, but few would have known about the physical environment and, remarkable, family ties that moulded the man that we know today. Reflecting his earlier writings in 'Cage Eleven' this tome is written with no lack of humour, and this perhaps something that may surprise some. His autobiography is both enjoyable and informative and well worth a look - you won't be short changed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that takes your imagination back in time, 31 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Whether you agree with his politics or not,Gerry Adams has captured the very essence of what times were like for him growing up.So descriptive is his writing style that he pulls your imagination into a time where pleasures were simple uncomplicated things, and the most difficult thing was how to get a torn jumper past his mother!!It just as well however shows how easily and effectively those simple dreams became harder and harder to realise.
He's a fair writer, and so true is it that one could not class this book as any form of attempted propaganda. His love for his people and beliefs is evident and true. All this manages to make this a truly unique read I would reccomend to any person, regardless of political stance.
Well done Gerry.
