Product Description

CD Description

First of three individual releases which will incorporate the complete sonatas for violin and piano by Beethoven (next releases likely to be in February and September 2011). Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien met whilst members of the BBC New Generation Artists scheme, immediately establishing a rapport which has brought them invitations from the world's leading recital halls, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall and, especially, the Wigmore Hall. Writing about the duo in The Times, Geoff Brown stated that these players have the potential to conquer the world. Alina and Cedric played several of Beethoven s violin sonatas together during the time when they were both participants in BBC Radio 3 s New Generation Artists scheme, but it wasn t until the beginning of October 2009 that they tackled the complete cycle. Thanks to a residency at Aldeburgh, they were able to concentrate on rehearsing these central pillars of the violin-andpiano repertoire for an entire week playing, talking, thinking, morning until evening, feeling the connections, the moods, the links between each sonata, each key, Tiberghien explains.

Do we really need another Beethoven violin sonata cycle? When it is as dramatic and colourful as presented here, assuredly yes. The blend between these two performers is nigh on perfect. This CD takes immediately its place among -- but not above -- the greats (Oistrakh and Oborin, Perlman and Ashkenazy and Kremer and Argerich). A terrific CD and a real feather in the cap of the Wigmore Hall. Bravo!

a total delight 27 Jun 2010

These performances are amazing and a total delight. There are many excellent renderings of these sonatas and some I love dearly but I know of none that are as lively and captivating as these. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous 22 Sep 2010

The music is superbly performed and is a perfect additional to any collection. I have several versions of these pieces but none I play more now than this. The violin has never been better played in my view and I look forward to future installation in this series.

An amazing batch of Beethoven from Ibragimova! 31 May 2011
By Steve49w - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I cannot express enough how amazing these live recordings of the Beethoven Violin Sonatas bu Alina Ibragimova & Cédrice Tiberghein are. The clarity and virtuosity if these performances are awe inspiring. And to think that these were done live, with very limited patch sessions amazes me even more. You will be very glad that you purchased this and the other 2 volumes in this cycle!!
