I started my Classical music collection with Nigel Kennedy's live rendition of the Beethoven Violin Concerto and it is still one of my favourites.
When it was first written, the very length of the piece made it unpopular as most violin concertos of the time were done and dusted in less time than the first movement by Beethoven. It was re-drafted for the Piano and this is what we have here in the Piano Concerto in D. (I am not reviewing the PC no. 4 as this can stand up for itself as another of Beethoven's masterpieces).
The whole piece is magnificently played and a joy to listen to. The cadenzas are magnificent and powerful and so different from those heard in the Violin Concerto.
I am no music expert, just a fan of great sounding, well played music and I recommend this to people of a similar taste.
