4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good recordings for the price 17 May 2003
Format:Audio CD
Perhaps not one of the best box-sets produced by Brilliant, but for the money you can't go wrong! Shoko Sugitani is on the piano, faithfully accompanied by the Berliner Symphoniker under the watchful eye of Gerard Oskamp. This 3-CD set contains all five piano concertos plus the 'sixth' violin/piano concerto.
Notable performances include the 1st, 2nd and 4th concertos but Sugitani doesn't seem to have the technical expertise to pull off a decent rendition of the famous Emperor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldnt agree more 11 Jan 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have to agree with the previous reviewer. The sound is pretty good with a reasonable balance between piano and orchestra. The first piano concerto is for me a particularly nice recording. There are no sleeve notes or details of the recording but looking through the internet it appears that the recording were first released on Victor [licensed by Verdi Records] and recorded at the Siemens Villa in Berlin in 1993 and 1994 and then released in 1995. They have now been taken up by Brilliant Classics who do an excellent job for the budget price classical market. The recordings are all digital so no problems there. For the price [if you buy them used as I did] this complete recording of the piano concertos of The Master are excellent value.
