Asked for his ideas about amateur performances, Philippe Hirshhorn answered, in an interview on Dutch radio: "If I hear one living note, I wasn't there for nothing."
This live registration of a concert given in Amsterdam, in 1993, is full of living music. Both musicians play with great intensity, and with ears wide open for beauty. This way, the works played are presented as if for the first time. The listener is left with the impression that these three sonatas were meant to be played in no other way.
