From the town of Macclesfield in the early-80s came the infamous "Macc Lads", the crudest band in Christendom. As an example, the opening line of "Sweaty Betty" is

"She wore big knickers and she worked on't sewage farm" - and the lyrics go rapidly ruder from there on.

The Ladds' lyrics are set in a world where the mode of transport is either a Vauxhall Viva covered in rust or a no. 29 bus and everyone drinks 20 pints of Boddies on a Friday night. (Anyone who drinks halfs of lager, or washes their hair is distinctly suspect!).

Lyrics aside, for punk/metal this is musically quite a good album, and unlike many "novelty" records will bear repeated listening. The Beater's guitar riffs hold up well and of the 19 tracks on the CD, there are no fillers. Excellent stuff.

I rediscovered this album after almost 20 years when the new CD version came out and I've chuckled my way through it since.

This is "lads rock" at its best - lewd, crude and loud. Just don't play it to your girlfriend.

I first heard this album when I was a young and impressionable teenager, on my mates walkman coming back from Alton Towers, but I have to say that 10 years later, it still makes me laugh. It was the first one of their albums I heard, and to be honest, appart from the odd one or two little diamonds from them since, it has never been bettered.

It is crude, there is loads of swearing, if you are not from "Macc", chances are your part of the world or your ethnic group are completely slated, but how seriously or personally do you want to take it? Personal favourites on this album have to be "Now he's a poof" and "Blackpool", "Miss Macclesfield" always makes me smile too.

If you have a crude, raw sense of humour, buy it and love it for what it is, a bit of fun.

Get Weavin'!!!!

This is one of the few albums that has made me laugh out-loud as I listened to it. The lyrics will make you cringe and crack up, like a Princess Diana joke does for example. Anyone easily offended should stay well away; this is crude and unrefined, but brilliant nevertheless. Lyrics aside, in terms of musical content the Macc Lads are as good as any eighties rock band I've heard, which is a quality that is often over looked.

I like my funny lyrics and, along with The Bloodhound Gang and Eminem, the Macc Lads are amongst the best.
