Finally A Great Domestic Version of the Greatest Hits - Mastered From the Original Tapes! 7 April 2008
By Cole Thorton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Over the course of the last 10 years, several companies have released so-called greatest hits collections of Luther Ingram. All those versions for some reason (cheapness I assume) were mastered from vinyl - and poorly mastered to the point you still heard the pops! This is the first domestic release mastered directly from the original tapes (and boy - you can hear the difference) and that includes informative liner notes from Chicago writer Bill Dahl! Kudos to Airline records whoever they are for putting out this gem!

The reissue label soul fans can trust!! 16 April 2009

The late Luther Ingram's work for both the Stax-affiliated KoKo label and its post-Stax reincarnation have been released in numerous digital forms since the late 1980s. Reissues have appeared on P-Vine, Urgent!, Malaco, Right Stuff, Collectibles etc. etc. with most being remastered from vinyl complete with hiss, crackle and pop and limited dynamics. Then last year, Tony Rounce and the folks at Ace in London - still the number 1 reissue label in the world - picked up rights to the Johnnie Baylor/Dino Woodward Klondike catalog that included all of Luther's output on KoKo (for the lowdown on KoKo - Rob Bowman's "Soulsville USA" is required reading). With love and patience, the best available sources of the original tracks have been remastered and released. This is the third CD of the Kent reissues of Luther Ingram's catalog and has to be heard to be believed (duh!). Having lived with the vinyl since 1974 and with all the various CD issues, hoping that each might be less surface noisy than the last, Kent have finally done Luther right. The sound is stupendous - after 35 years, I hear things on these tracks that were not previously evident and add magic to what was already great. Isaac Hayes' backing vocals are more distinct, the stereo separation is great and the strings and horns stand out as never before.
As with the three CD "Take Me To The River" set, Kent have again set the standard - the reissue label that soul fans can trust. The 4th and final Luther Ingram CD representing his post -Stax KoKo releases - but still recorded in Muscle Shoals - is promised as forthcoming in the liner notes, Thanks Tony!!

I was looking for this song forever. When I found it used, I was a little skeptical but it played perfect with no issues. I still listen to it from time to time. It arrived very quick.

This album is truly a Soul classic. the title song " If Loving You Is Wrong" is even used today in a television commercial for breakfast cereal.
Its a shame that Luther passed away some time ago and we lost a true master.
