You are not going to find many bands like Dead Milkmen 15 Mar. 2003
By "grnvk" - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This CD is hilarious. The classic song is obviously 'Punk Rock Girl' but there are so many other songs on this release that are just as good like 'Smoking Bananna Peels', 'Bleach Boys', 'The Guitar Song'. The bands sngwriting often gets me wondering 'how do they think up this stuff?' As far as the musicianship, I can not think of any other band that has a similar sound to the Dead Milkmen, which is always good. The best way to describe their sound would be punk tuned down a notch. To me, this is their best release. If you are in a down mood, put this one on-it will get you to smile.

Essential Milkmen 11 Jan. 2002
By High Y - Published on
Format: Audio CD
If you had to pick just one essential Milkmen album from their prestigious catalogue, a lot of people would have to go with this one. With an impressive 17 songs, this album gives a taste of all that the Milkmen did best. From Rodney Anonymous' brilliant story-telling on "Stuart," to Joe Jack Talcum's pop-punk sensibilities on "Punk Rock Girl" and "The Guitar Song," to their unique mix of these elements on "I Walk The Thinnest Line" and "Bleach Boys," you really get it all. Virtually every track is a Milkmen classic, which is saying something. If you want a solid intro to this band, get this one; if you already like the Milkmen but somehow don't have this, have your head checked. This album is the definitive road to a magical world where ministers murder golf pros and Ringo finally buys a rifle, and it is not to be missed!

Make up your own words. Stuart would. 20 April 2005
By Johnny Heering - Published on
Format: Audio CD
The Dead Milkmen were a punkish band that played "funny" songs. They had a somewhat immature sense of humor, but a lot of it was pretty funny. Beelzebubba was their best selling album, because it featured their most popular song, "Punk Rock" girl. That song is a great one, and there are a lot of other funny ones here, too. I particularly like "RC's Mom", which is a James Brown impersonation where he sings about beating his wife. Not all the songs work, but a good percentage of them do. If you like music that has a goofy sense of humor, you will probably get some laughs from this album.

for awhile, the milkmen rocked 27 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I rarely write reviews, but when I saw the amazon "what the critics say" I had to punch in. The Dead Milkmen were a great band because of, not in spite of, exactly what they were: smart, snotty and damn funny kids. No, they're not as seminal as Black Flag, Minor Threat, X, etc, but then again when you look at all the tongue in cheek pop-punk thats come out in the last few years, with bands like Green Day and that weak band that penned "fly for a white guy"--pass some of the proceeds to the Milkmen, god knows they could use it. As for this particular record, its solid and good--I prefer Eat Your Paisley and Big Lizard in my Backyard, but any of those early records are well worth your money
Hell, the song "Stuart" by itself is worth the price of admission!

PUNK ROCK Girl, a classic! 24 Aug. 2000
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This album is solid Dead Milkmen and most representative of their style and influences. My favorite is Punk Rock Girl by Joe Jack (now Joe Genaro of BUTTERFLY JOE). I think it is one of the best pop songs/videos ever. I never get tired of hearing it and it always brings a smile to my face when it comes on MTV late at night. Plus, it mentions Mojo Nixion. How could you go wrong?! I also own the BUTTERFLY JOE CD - Joe's new project. And, it is just as good.
