Product Description

Review

"A Bee Journal is like no other, for the bees are real, and the book is an accurate study of an apiarist’s year, each poem a perfect study, a perfect poem." (Gillian Clarke Granta)

"nature poetry at its best" (Gillian Clarke Granta)

"Sean Borodale is without doubt the most exciting new poet I have read since Alice Oswald. His Bee Journal raises the bar for us all and announces a thrilling new voice in British poetry" (Carol Ann Duffy)

"Truly heady and intense poems, honey itself in poetic form, a sustained tour de force of language and thought" (Simon Armitage)

"This book is a kind of uncut home-movie of bees. I like its oddness and hurriedness, its way of catching the world exactly as it happens in the split-second before it sets into poetry. These are pre-poems, note-poems dictated by phenomena. Their context is bees, but their subject (intriguingly) is Time..." (Alice Oswald)

Book Description

One of the most unusual and exciting poetry debuts in years, and a stunning portrait of life as an apiarist. Shortlisted for the 2012 T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize

This unprentious book tells the story of a bee colony over one year in poetry and prose. Any bee keeper will be enchanted by the delightful descriptions of trials and enjoyment of bee keeping.

This was bought for a poetry-loving friend who is absolutely delighted with it. She loves the feel of it, the bee illustration and the poetry itself. She was so pleased with it that I repeated the order for another

I have not read any Sean Borodale before and I am a bit disappointed with this book, partly because it is about bees and beekeeping all the way through. No surprises there I suppose, but for me it plods along into a rather uninteresting account. Beekeepers may find it fascinating???
