Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

On this, her seventh album proper, Madonna once again shows that one of her greatest talents is her ability to choose collaborators who bring the best out of her. This time around, the producers and co-writers include Bjork, Nellee Hooper (Massive Attack/Soul II Soul) and swing deities Dallas Austin & Babyface (who, amongst a myriad of credits, were the men behind TLC's CrazySexyCool). Mellower in the most part than her previous work, the album includes the usual handful of hits in "Secret", "Human Nature", the title track, and "Take A Bow", a duet with Babyface which is as beautifully glum as anything she's done. While the period between the Erotica/Sex fiasco and her triumphant return with 1998's Ray Of Light was a comparatively lean period commercially for Madonna, this album is up there with the best of her work. --Ronita Dutta

I first bought this album in 2OOO, and was bowled over by how chic, luxurious and well made this album was. Even though at the time, the album was 6 years old, it still sounded groundbreaking, modern and better than anything about at the time in RNB - (Mariah, TLC etc). I can listen to this album whenever - its one of those rare albums where it suits you for any occasion - its great when you're feeling upset, great for getting in the mood, or just feeling really happy. The best songs are undoubtedly 'secret' and 'survival'.
Even now in 2OO8 - an astonishing 14 years after its release it still sounds really good - better than Nelly Furtados 'Loose' Album, and better than Mariah's new CD. It just goes to show how unrivalled and superior Madonna is compared to her 'rivals' in terms of her choice of musical style, choice of lyrics and choice of producers to work with.
I understand this album was more or less overlooked by the world upon release- I think the world was still unforgiving of Madonna since her course'SEX' obsessed phase 2 years earlier. In fact this album ironically is full of the softer, richer, sensual side of sex, which is the direct opposite of her last albums theme. Even though this album has sold around 10.000.000 worldwide, it was no way a dissapointment. In my opinion though, it should have sold 3 times that.
It is my favourite Madonna Album to date, and i would love her to release an album of similar material once again to give the world a second chance to experience a more 'sensual, rich, chic side to Madonna.
I you want an album which will become a timeless piece to your music collection, buy it NOW!
The artwork is also superb, with some fantastic, gorgeous pictures of Madonna.

Released in 1994 after the confrontational S&M themes of erotica and the sex book, this album went some way to rehabilitating madonna's batterd reputation.
Enlisting top soul co-producers Dallas Austin, Babyface and dave hall, Madonna went for the languid rhythms of cool, urban hip hop and R&B.
She also laced the mix with some cult british cachet, coutesy of Nelle Hooper and a title track written and penned by Bjork.
This was a calmer, fluffier Madonna, as shown by the tender ballad and standout track SECRET.
TAKE A BOW which closes the album was her biggest hit in america, staying at the no.1 spot for 7 WHOLE WEEKS!

Some of the songs on the album such as SANCTUARY pave the way for the brilliant experimental textures of the massive RAY OF LIGHT album.
rating 10 out of 10!

A Madonna classic 22 Feb 2009
By Mad Fan
Format:Audio CD
Coming hot off the heels of the album Erotica, Madonna regressed back to her R&B roots (yes she was at it way before Mariah, Beyonce or Britney) with this her 7th full album. Bedtime stories is actually a mish mash of R&B, pop and futuristic Eurotrance in part, thanks to the Nelle Hooper produced track, Bedtime Story. That track remains one of my favorite all time Madonna songs along with the videos which accompanied its release both in 1995 and in 2004 seen as an interlude backdrop on her greatest hits world tour Re-Invention, remixed by Orbital. If Erotica saw Madonna become experimental and out with the old producers such as Pat Leonard, Stephen Bray and Jellybean then Bedtime Story truly became the part where she broke free of her safe past......Bedtime Stories was where Madonna truly became the queen of Re-Invention. The look, the sounds, the costumes and videos saw Madonna experiment with everything from bondage through to Barbarella and the matador, it was in actual fact a wonderful precursor to Ray Of Light and whilst the track which ended up on her ballads collection, I Want You, is sorely missed on this album (it should have been put on here along with You'll see and One More Chance) it stands out as being totally different to anything she had done before but safe with respect to her old hits and their mellow grooves. Incidentaly a track called Your Honesty which was a cast off from these sessions turned up in 2003 on a compilation called Madonna Remixed and Re-visited...rather similar to the track Dont Stop its just a plain simple groove that should also have been put on the album. Another missing track called Let Down Your Guard is also to be found as the B-side to Secret, another cool track that should have been on the final album. Still as Madonna albums go, this is up there with her best and if it were not for his untimely death and prison sentence the track I'd Rather Be Your Lover WOULD have included a rap by Mr Tupac Shakur instead of M'shell N'dgelloco, its to be found on youtube for ardent fans if they want to hear.
