Product Description

Product Description

Following the success of FUN RUN AND OTHER OXYMORONS, the quintessential Englishman abroad - who 'distrusts all beliefs, most thought and anything ending in "ism"' - regales us once again with his dry and hilarious observations on the absurdities of everyday life. If you relish laughing out loud at the expense of the pretentious and the pompous, and like your wit lacerated with insight and compassion, then Joe Bennett's second collection of sparkling vignettes won't disappoint. From tortoise smuggling and culinary fads to bad poetry and the joys of poultry, Joe's eclectic range of topics and targets, penned with his trademark shrewd humour, provide a refreshingly new look at the absurdities of our daily lives. In his own words, 'If anything holds these observations together it is that I like people but not in herds. I distrust all beliefs, most thought and anything ending in ism.'

About the Author

Joe Bennett was born in Brighton and since leaving Cambridge University has taught English in a variety of countries including Canada, Spain and New Zealand. He lives in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Having bought the previous book, I wondered if the author would be able to continue to raise a laugh whilst challenging many of the ideas we are brought up to accept. He can, and does.
The previous reviewer is quite right. This is a very, very funny book and I recommend it to all. Each piece (the book comprises a number of essays) is very well crafted and achieves that rare blend of making you think whilst laughing out loud.

This book is a collection of stories. Not "short stories", but the author's everyday stories about anything and everything which happen in the authors life. His rich and colourful use of language never fails to impress, and he is the first writer to have made me laugh out loud in a while. And laugh out loud I did. A lot.
As you read through the book, you begin to live the man's life with him, through his eyes. I have already ordered his first book, so I can reacquaint myself with his world.
His stories are observations on life, which we can all relate to. He will make you laugh. No question about it. His little snippets of humorous prose will have you rolling about with absolute delight.
Sheer genius. Buy it.
