Before I bought this crib I had read good things about co-sleeper cribs and was contemplating spending around £250 on one of the big brand versions. But then I happened to spot a small ad from a local mum who had one of these in nearly new condition and decided to give it a go. Six months on, I've been so pleased with it that I thought I would pop in and write a review. My baby boy has had a good run in this crib since birth and I'm actually rather sad that he's finally outgrown it and will have to move into his own room. (In case it helps, my baby is not especially heavy but he is of average length. I imagine a large or heavy baby might outgrow this crib at 4 or 5 months of age, but it's still worth it in my opinion).
On the plus side, I think that this crib is a real bargain. It is sturdy enough to take my weight, let alone baby's and is a good, compact size - reasonably long but not very wide, which makes it ideal for a smaller room where you haven't the space for a large crib. You can choose to use it either as a co-sleeper, attached directly to your bed, or as a traditional stand-alone crib with all four sides in place. I chose the co-sleeper option and it looked really sweet and attractive once assembled with the canopy up.
There are a few cons - most of which have been mentioned in other reviews. The first is that the supplied quilt bedding is a bit cheap and nasty. This was not a big deal for me as we preferred to use grobags anyway and the bumper and canopy were perfectly fine. The second is that the cot doesn't come with a proper mattress. Again, this was not a big deal for me as it was cheap enough to buy that separately. Some people have commented that the positioning of the cot base places the baby significantly lower than your own mattress. This is true, but not necessarily a bad thing as it keeps baby secure inside his sleeping space. I chose to bolster the height a little by doubling up on mattresses, which meant that my baby's mattress was only a couple of inches lower than mine. Even after purchasing a pair of decent mattresses online the cot was still less than half of the price of the others I was considering.
In summary, I would definitely use this crib again if I have another baby. As a breastfeeding mum, I really appreciated not having to get out of bed several times every night.
