5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect addition! 16 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
This delightful CD is a great addition to any collection even if you don't generally like Disney. With a cast including Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson, this fits the criteria of a musical(try not singing along to 'The Beautiful Briny!)but with the magical touch of Disney hat brightens up a day. I unfortunately start dancing to this CD and had the pleasure of falling in front of my class. Buy it for this experience only!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kozal is amazing 24 Mar 2008
By Tell It - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Everytime I listen to this CD, I am amazed by the ... well - is musical genius going too far? of the Sherman brothers and most especially by what Irwin Kozal produced from their lyrics and melodies for the soundtrack. I picture this huge Disney orchestra complete with kazoos (where necessary) and bagpipes ... and ... just the way the music goes from theme to theme in the overture is magic. And, I love Dave Tomlinson! His phrasing, his timing, his perfect voice (that still sounds undeniably Tomlinsonian), and Angela Lansbury does not disappoint! My son, who is 3 years old loves the movie, and when we are in the car, he requests "Soldiers!" and "Mecodies!" So, I get to liten to music I like, and so does he. Everyone's happy. Bobbing along ... bobbing along ... : )

5.0 out of 5 stars My children and I highly recommend this book to you 2 Jan 2013
By Kurt A. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This soundtrack CD only recently fell into my hands, and boy am I glad that it did. It contains eleven tunes from the original movie, though the Portebello Road sequence was inexplicably trimmed to a fraction of its original length. Plus, as a bonus, the CD contains three bonus tracks. Nobody's Problem, which was missing from the original release, but restored to in 1996, is here, as are two very excellent others.

I purchased this CD to keep my children entertained during a long car trip, and this CD did an excellent job. The kids liked that there were no long instrumental mood music selections (except for the overture and finale), which will please youngsters but upset purists. As a matter of fact, the children loved this CD so much that we listened to it several times, and were sure to sing along with Solid Citizen, a good old-fashioned music hall tune.

My children and I highly recommend this CD to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from lost times 19 Jan 2008

3.0 out of 5 stars More Music Left Out than Put In 30 Mar 2013
By Musicals Freak - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The music for this film was written by the Sherman Brothers, who wrote "Mary Poppins." This is not up to par with that, but it is still fun. However, given that the liner notes repeatedly mention the 2002 reconstruction of the film, it is appalling that the disc is only 34 minutes long. Would it have killed anyone, while they were restoring the original soundtrack elements, to put more music on this disc, like the "Portobello Road Street Dance," an extended 10 minute number in the film that gets 2 minutes here? Or, how about the underscoring for the battle between the German Army and the museum displays? And why is the version of "Nobody's Problems" only a demo with piano rather than the fully scored version in the restored film? The prime reason to buy this would be to hear Angela Lansbury fresh from her second Tony Award doing her own singing in one of the few musicals in which she was allowed to do so.
