Product Description

Praise for Bedford Square

'Read it here first - one of the new writers in this anthology . . . could be the Next Big Thing. It's a rich selection . . . I'd put a few bob on Tahmima Anam - the extract from her novel-in-progress, A Golden Age, is a vivid and intriguing slice of Bangladesh in 1959. I also expect to hear more of Ben Gardiner, if the extract from They Said It Was Beautiful, But Jack Wasn't So Sure is anything to go by - he is full of assurance, energy and genuine originality'

(The Times)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea 16 Aug 2007
Good idea, from a student's point of view, to promote a 'Creative Writing' course, and its works, from Royal Holloway, but perhaps Motion loses a little integrity as Poet Laureate, in publishing 'some' material under his name, that may otherwise never have seen the light of day. Some good, some less so, some ???

4.0 out of 5 stars Bedford Square 2 26 Jan 2007
Another excellent book from some of the best writing talent in the country. Well worth buying and having a read - you get the feeling that some of these writers will be around for a long time and the majority of the material is very accesible. I picked up a copy of Bedford Square 2 on it's first day and started reading it on the tube on the way home. I tend to read the first paragraph and see how I feel. On that basis, I would have to single out H.C Whittam and Paul Maunder as two styles of writing that really impressed me from the outset in terms of pace, depth and interest. Seems like the MA Creative course run by Andrew Motion is producing some notable writers and I heop they continue to do so for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down 10 Jan 2007
I'm so annoyed because I can't put this book down and should be working. The poets are all good and Sam Riviere's love poems gave me a particular rush of excitement, while Gillian Petrie also drew me into her world. The fiction is also addictive and I'm very curious to see what the publishers choose this year.
