5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable, riveting read. Up to her usual standard., 24 Mar 2002
By skmaw@hotmail.com (Great Britain) - See all my reviews
This, the fifth book in the Performers series, details the experiences of Abel's spinster daughter, Martha, who is approaching middle age. A chance meeting leads her to leave her life of luxury behind and travel to Turkey to use her nursing skills to relieve the suffering of women and children who had followed their men to war in the Crimea.
This is a novel of great factual detail, involving Martha's turbulant relationship with the famous Florence Nightingale, as well as an account of the lives, loves and personalities of the fictional characters involved. It is a book you simply cannot put down which literaly transports the reader to the time and place to experience the conditions for yourself.
