A dream inheritance, a dark legacy, a new beginning...

When Gareth Balaam inherits Harbinger House, he thinks his problems are over. But unfortunately, they've only just begun. Harbinger House has a dark past. Shrouded in mystery, what may have occurred within its walls is still a matter of conjecture. The locals at the pub talk about the place in whispers. Gareth's partner, Tim, thinks the house is haunted.

Gareth doesn't believe in ghosts, but he does believe Tim is using the house as an excuse to not work on their relationship. Their trip to the country to bring them closer seems to be doing the opposite. Tensions and resentments flare, and through it all, someone is watching...

Luka is lonely and bored. Confined to the shadows of the house for decades, he has driven all the previous occupants insane with lust. Except the last. The one man Luka had loved had broken his heart and had left rather than lose his mind. The house stood empty, and Luka was alone. But not anymore. There's life in the house again, two delicious lovers, two new humans to seduce. Except one refuses to play...

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and entertaining read 14 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This short story is immensely readable and entertaining.
Kiran Hunter proves to be a wizard at the writing craft, creating well-rounded, memorable characters in few words - characters that I'd very much like to meet again. Gareth inherits a house he's never seen and has no idea of its sinister history. In order to save his cooling relationship with Tim, he moves into the house in the middle of the countryside to avoid the temptations of city life, unaware of who, or what, lurks in the walls of the crumbling abandoned house, nor what its intentions are.

The cover of "Bedevil" is a perfect fit for this brilliant story. Kiran Hunter plays with the reader like a cat and brews the horror like a gathering storm. I would love to see the sequel, if there is one, and I would definitely like to see Gareth and Tim again - I miss them already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant debut 11 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This short story is Kiran Hunter's first published work. Well written, intelligent and it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. All mixed with a complicated gay relationship. I'm waiting for the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hint Of M R James 3 Dec 2011
By Pandy
Format:Kindle Edition
This chilling short story reminds me on one hand of the old ghost stories of M R James - but this combines the creepiness of the supernatural with a gay themed situation. Why not? I loved it. I hope Hunter will write something longer.Nineteen Ghost Stories of M. R. James to Keep You Up At Night The Complete Three Volume Collection
