Gemma is the daughter of a rich Australian, when she was ten her mother died. When her father remarried she was very resentful of her stepmother. As a young woman she cared little for the feelings of others, especially Andreas a young Italian who came to work at her fathers hotel, Andreas was in love with Gemma but she treated him abominably. Now present day her father has died and in order to gain her inheritance she must marry before her birthday, Andreas steps in to save the day. But his motives are in doubt is he merely out for revenge? I liked Andreas very much, but found it difficult to warm to Gemma, it was not easy to get into the story as it seemed a bit flat lacking any kind of passion. Usually I really enjoy Ms. milburnes books but not so much this time.
