Riley had recently lost her partner, and was having a difficult time with his death. Riley's step dad was the chief of Police. He moved Riley to another department, and matched her up to Sam. Riley did not want a new department, or a partner, but she couldn't get her step dad to back down. Shortly after they became partners they had a case of home invasions, and just could not catch a break. Riley's new boss was a big jerk. I so wished Riley could have told him off...I think he gets his kicks by making the people under him afraid to breath.
Sam also found out he was the dad to his six year old daughter named Lisa. Lisa's mother had just died, making Sam the full time parent. Sam was a little clueless at first. He had never spent time with kids before. Riley helped Sam with Lisa, and gave him advice. The more time they spent together Riley could feel her heart falling in love with Sam, and Lisa. She didn't think Sam felt the same way about her. Should she allow herself to dream of forever, or should she pull back in fear of her heart being broken? Sam and Riley both acted on the sparks they felt for each other. They shared a friendship, being partners during the day, and a couple at night.
This book left me with a smile. The relationship between Riley, Sam and Lisa seemed so real. The author did a GREAT job with this story, and I will recommend it to anyone that needs a feel good story to read!

"Lisa said she thought you were very good looking and she could see why her mother `fell' for you, I believe were the words she used." Riley laughed. "This kid of yours is pretty precocious. She's going to keep you on your toes," Riley predicted. He didn't want a kid who kept him on his toes, who provided him with a mental challenge everywhere he turned. "That's what the cases I work on are for," He told Riley. "When I come home, all I want is to kick back and relax." "Little kids can do that, too" Riley assured him, adding, "She's not going to require being mentally stimulated 24/7." He had his doubts. Feeling like a man trying to cross quicksand, he dragged his hand through his hair. "I'm going to suck at this." "Give yourself a little credit, Wyatt. Every new dad thinks he's going to be a complete disaster when he starts out. This is all new to you.
