5.0 out of 5 stars So powerful and refreshing 26 Feb 2006

This Bible study is such a blessing. I have read the book of Esther many times, but this is the first time that I have taken such a simple but powerful look at the real Esther and just what she was all about. She was a faithful servant and followed every instruction to the letter, but she had back bone like no other. To sit across a feast table and accuse Haman of his wrong doing showed so much strength. This book is truly a book of Strength and Beauty. So simply put and easy to apply to our own lives. Elizabeth George is a wonderful writer for today's women.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study 10 Jan 2007

Elizabeth George always produces an excellent study. This one about Esther is no exception. This one is handy because the verses from the book of Esther are right there in text. There are other Bible verses that one needs to look up, but all of it helps bring the reader to the heart of Esther and reveals her dependence on God and her bravery. I am using this study in our girls' high school home school because it is so good.
4.0 out of 5 stars One of my top 3 picks for Esther studies 22 Sep 2014

Ended up getting this book for my ladies bible study. We all agreed that we liked it. Chapters are short so that you can easily get through a chapter along with discussion, prayer, coffee & fellowship in a 90 minute time frame. The author has a rather old fashioned way of writing (dear gentle reader sort of thing) but if you can get past that, with the exception of 2 chapters out of 26 we enjoyed working our way through this book. As an aside, I found that Esther was challenging to present as to understanding what was going on & looking at it some 2500 years later in a Western culture is difficult. I ended up reading over 50 commentaries along with historical writings & writing a 30 page (single spaced) paper to go along with this this book & read some really horrible Esther studies so while this book could have been better, it was one of the better ones. Understanding that Esther was basically just a glorified sex slave at the beginning of her story is crucial to how critical her & her cousin's role in the survival of the Jewish people was & how amazing it was & also how God uses all sorts of people to carry out his plans.
5.0 out of 5 stars This book was also used as a devotional and gave me a better understanding of the book of Esther 4 Oct 2014

I learnt so much from this book. It makes you think about whether or not your can actually become a woman of beauty and strength and a woman after God's own heart. The answer is to follow closely the ways of Esther and we could become that. It gave me a lot to think about. This book was also used as a devotional and gave me a better understanding of the book of Esther. I would recommend it to any women to use and follow.
5.0 out of 5 stars An invitation to delve deeply into the depths of courage... 5 Feb 2014

Want to grow and feel beautiful...this book is for you. It leads you in stages through the book of Esther (in the Bible) with great depth, understanding and with challenges through great questions. It is best done whilst writing a journal, to record your reactions, revelations and epiphanies. It inspires you to a higher level of understanding of the times, the culture and the significance of the life of Esther; what that means for you, personally, as a woman. It challenges you develop character and be ready to respond to the call: for such a time as this. It is not a book to rush, but rather to read and meditate on the way. Elizabeth George has also successfully defined beauty, from the inside out. For some, this will be revelation knowledge because of our past and because of the false understanding of beauty that our culture imposes upon us. The journey of life through this book is to be treasured.
