Product Description

AUTHOR NOTE "I write this text as a certified scrum master with experience in international blue chip companies dating back to 1999. That experience includes leading projects for the BBC, General Electric, Oracle, BSkyB, HiT Entertainment (responsible for Angelina Ballerina, Bob the builder and other titles that you love watching with your kids or siblings but won’t admit to) and Razorfish. These roles have all involved leadership on a wealth of mobile, internet TV and web software projects. I have played the role of scrum master and in the earlier years, of team lead and technical lead. I have had the privilege of running projects and rolling out working practices in market leading organisations from start to finish."

As I am sure you can imagine, becoming a scrum master involves far more than simply understanding the scrum rules. For me, becoming a scrum master was a journey that began with regular project-work and ended with the ability to coach others based on my experiences of doing things with and without scrum. The purpose of this book is to guide a potential scrum master through the steps I recommend, explaining why those steps are important.

By the time you have read this book you will be given:

- an excellent set of steps to follow if you want to become a scrum master
- examples of the kind of experiences that helped me to become a scrum master
- pointers from a scrum expert

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of time 25 Nov 2013
By NickM
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was more an advert for the author's other books. There was not a single piece of useful information about the process of scrum. I felt it to be a complete waste of time unfortunately. It is the only book I've ever deleted from my account as I do not want to accidentally open it again costing me more time. I got the book for free but I see now a cost attached to it, hence I felt compelled to write a review anyway.

In summary, the book is more about the early experiences of the author in what interested him in scrum, the course he then went on and the experience he had since then - in the process mentioning a few times his other book if you want to actually learn something about scrum. This book teaches nothing about scrum and is just a micro biography of the author's timeline into his career around scrum.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time. 8 Sep 2012
By Lisa Pecunia - Published on Amazon.com

The other reviewer was obviously a shill -- I could tell before I even bought the book, so I knew I was taking a risk. First of all the book is not worth the $2.99 price tag. If the price was $0.99 I might have given it two stars. Basically the author's advice comes down to this: Get experience in waterfall, then get experience on a scrum team, then get certified as a CSM, then get a job as a scrum master. The format of all this profundity is long drawn-out run-on paragraphs telling of his own personal experience as a developer. Yawn. Oh and he also throws links in there to his other "guides" and resources. My advice: Don't Bother

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful info 5 Feb 2013

Although I'd read a number of books on the Scrum framework, this one was very good at breaking down how to develop the skills required to be a good Scrum Master. It was pretty simple and spare, but had enough information to be useful. I would recommend.

This was a short and pithy book on Scrum. I thought it covered the information well and thoroughly. If you wan't to know how to be a Scrum Master this is a good read.
