Born in Gillingham Kent in 1948, Jacki Rodikis was educated at Chatham Grammar School for Girls. She trained as a computer programmer, and then developed a successful business. She is passionate about raising public awareness of the long term effects of childhood sexual abuse and has recently established Women for Change , a charity to help women survivors. A thought-provoking, compelling story filled with pain, courage and determination

I couldn't put this book down until I completed it, box of tissues nearby.... Every chapter was emotionally charged and the poetry incredible. It is a story every woman could relate to, as I expect most of us have seen the best and worst of human nature. Reading "Because You're A Woman" raises many questions about our own life experiences and how we deal with them, and I do think this book could change a few people's lives for the better. The poem "Daughter" was one of the most beautiful pieces of writing I have ever read, every Mother will relate....

A very thought provoking insight into a very real life experience, which is both harrowing and yet inspirational. An incredibly honest story of an emotive subject, and the effects it had on the lives of the people involved. It is a triumph of the human spirit over adversity written in such a unique style, which combines beautiful poetry and excellent narration to take the reader comfortably to its conclusion. I defy anybody to read it and not be moved but also to question their opinions of relationships. A must read for men and women alike!

It took me some time to pick this book up, because I too have abuse in my background,and I was afraid of what it might bring up. But once I started to read, it was compelling. Brutally honest, vulnerable, insightful and beautifully written this is the story of a woman who refuses to be labelled a victim,and painfully goes on to not just survive, but to thrive. It is a story for women everywhere, a testament to the strength and courage of the female. Jacki Rodikis is a role model and inspiration to us all. I read is soon after Eat, Pray, Love which I enjoyed, but at a shallow level. There is an honesty and congruency to Because You're A Woman which shines off every page and lifts it far above Eat, Pray, Love - although the latter is a smash hit. This deserves to be up there with it. Ladies buy it for your sisters, pass it on to your work mates - we ALL need to read this. Despite the horrific betrayal of her childhood, there is no hint of self pity. She identifies the behaviour patterns abuse conditions into us, the lack of self worth and numbness that is familiar to every victim of abuse. But there is nothing maudlin about this tale, it is one of hope, and strength and courage and integrity. Great read!
