"Because You're Mine" is another well-written historical romance by Lisa Kleypas' magic pen. The story is set in Victorian London mostly in the interesting surroundings of the Capital Theatre.
Lady Madeline Matthews is a spirited young gentlewoman who doesn't want to marry her family's chosen old but rich lecherous lord. She is desperately planning some sort of escape when she gets the idea of socially ruining herself with the help of Logan Scott. Logan Scott is the most popular actor of his times. He is the owner of London's Capital Theatre and he is one of England's richest men. Madeline leaves school and goes to London directly to the Capital. Her plan is to make Logan Scott make love to her and ruin her. Maddy is an intelligent girl but she is very innocent in the ways of the world. Logan is her opposite. He is a hardened womanizer with no illusions about the hardships of life. He comes from a painful childhood and he fought for everything he has. He is attracted to Madeline from the beginning but he is angry as well. He doesn't want her around the theatre because she threatens the peace of his body and mind. Maddy is stubborn and doesn't want to give up hope that she will be able to seduce Logan. Both characters are strong, attractive and very alive. The story is full of their exciting verbal fights and the sexual tension between them is sizzling.
Logan doesn't want to trust any woman but Maddy defeats his barriers and they make passionate love. The storyline is fast-paced full of emotional struggle between Logan and Maddy. They both misunderstand the other's motives and they hurt each other unintentionally. The path to happiness is long and not easy.
There are some interesting well developed secondary characters who are meddling in the couple's relationship either positively or negatively. Ms. Kleypas is a very talented writer who finds the right way to describe her characters and their continuous change for the better.
BECAUSE YOU'RE MINE is a beautiful historical romance set in the busy life of a Victorian theatre. The authors use of different sceneries is very original. I love the way she writes about her characters and make them come alive so we think of them as real persons.Fans of historical romance will cherish this book and they will want to read more by this excellent author.

A rising superstar 13 July 1997
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Their worlds would never have intersected if the aristocratic and
snobbish parents of Madeline Matthews had not tried to marry her off to
an older Earl, who wanted her only as broodmere. Up to that moment,
Maddie had been a docile, very obedient daughter. This time however,
she rebels and runs off to London in the hopes of obtaining employment
at the Capital Theatre. Her ultimate goal is to meet, charm, and seduce
the stage's top actor Logan Scott. That way she can return home as
"soiled goods" and be rejected by her fiance. Logan is less than
thrilled with her, but his co-manager takes pity on Maddie and hires
her.

Maddie immediately becomes the favorite of everyone in the theatre
except Logan. He thinks she is a jinx because accidents seem to occur
to him whenever she is near him. He also loathes the fact that he is
very attract ed to her. When Maddie discovers Logan is very ill in his
office, she nurses him back to health at considerable risk to
herself. This crumbles his remaining defenses and the jaded actor admits
his true feelings to the innocent miss. They share a beautiful intimate
evening of lovemaking. However, when her father discovers them, Logan
feels betrayed because she hid her background from him. Two months
later, a pregnant Maddie returns, forcing
Logan to once again look inside himself. Will he choose a lifetime of
loving happiness or will he opt to remain in his self-induced hell?

Lisa Kleypas pens a very humorous and satirical tale about the
pitfalls that occur in 1833 England when a commoner and an aristocrat
try to make a life together. The decadent hero makes the perfect
counterpoint to the naive heroine as their different perspectives of
the world diverge into proving that love can conquer any obstacle if
allowed by the participants. BECAUSE YOU'RE MINE is a fun read that
will lift readers out of the doldrums. This reviewer expects to read
one day that Lisa Kleypas made it to the New York Times best seller
list.
