I have not seen a lesfic story quite like this before. I chose to read this because I like the way Ms. Cannon writes. What I got was a surprise. The story line was intriguing, interesting and intense. This book hit on a several heavy subjects. It was a bit hard in some places but it made the story stronger and more realistic and in doing so made the book all the better. Having to deal with some of the things that the lead characters faced, I can say that Ms. Cannon handled these subjects very well and authentically and I think that is another reason I liked this book. I could identify and relate to Barrett and Kelly.

Ms. Cannon's writing is wonderful, the story flowed nicely and the book ended up perfectly for me. I am so glad she chose to deal with such real issues.

Thank you Ms Cannon.

This is more of an action/adventure story than a romance which suited me fine as the author has written an excellent tale of kidnapping and violence in Columbia. When Barrett, who is a successful business woman, is kidnapped by rebels she quickly becomes attached to Kelly, a nurse who has been captive for a much longer time. The author doesn't skip over the horrific effects of the ordeal and nor of the problem that come with recovery after freedom has been regained. This is a pleasant change from many romantic suspense novels where nothing really bad happens to anyone, they are rescued just in time, and they recover instantly.

Barrett is a woman used to power who finds powerlessness difficult to handle and also feels guilt because her friend has not been rescued with her. Kelly is a caregiver who becomes a victim but still tries to care. The two women are very different from one another but their shared ordeal brings them together - they do have to overcome their shared emotional baggage before they can be together.

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought that the action sections were excellent and the romance was realistically handled given the situation. I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley.

I really liked the story 28 Oct. 2014

I really liked the story. But when I purchase these books I expect more romance than a few pages at the end of the book. Unfortunately many of these authors are getting hung up on the story and not on the romance between the characters, I like a good blend of both a well told story, character development and good old fashioned romance. You get two out of three in this book. Not good enough by my book. Some of these authors need to start reducing the price of their books and ebooks if they can't or won't deliver on all three.

Wanted so much to love this book 3 Nov. 2014
By LT - Published on Amazon.com

It started so well and had such promise. The ending ruined everything. My exact words after th last page were- are you F'in kidding me! Why are these authors so afraid of writing a book that gives a complete story and a satisfying ending. And yes...has a few more pages. the first half of the book was captivating and the aftermath of handling what they went through was gripping. But threre was no follow through. After all that, I would like to see how they turned out a few years down the road. This book does not need a sequel.....an epilogue will do. Don't be afraid to write a few more chapters, it'll be alright.

I Wanted More 3 Dec. 2014
By Janet - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I rated this book at three stars because I just felt there was more to the story; at least I wanted more. The premise was excellent and the first 2/3rds of the story gripping and quite intense. The pacing was a bit uneven during the final chapters. The ending was rather abrupt and I was left with unanswered questions. Not enough to require a sequel, but an epilogue might have been apropos. The characters were interesting, the dialogue strong and the settings beautifully detailed. I just wanted more story.

A Harrowing Tale of Love and Adventure 21 Oct. 2014
By RLynne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Julie Cannon grabbed my interest with the Prologue. You instantly know that something very harrowing is happening. Once she had my interest, she never let go! Set in the jungles of Columbia, Because of You has two very well created main characters: Barrett and Kelly. Barrett is from a wealthy CA family, and has her own IT company. Kelly is a nurse who works at a Denver hospital when she isn't going on aide missions to underdeveloped areas. Both women have been snatched by a Columbia militia group. Kelly has been held the longest, and is able to help Barrett adjust. Cannon does a great job of describing both the jungle and the sheer brutality of the militia group.
Because Of You held my attention to the very end. And, yes, the love story between Barrett and Kelly is well told, and equally as believeable as the rest of the novel.
