Beaver Towers has to be one of my all time favourite books for children. Having read it countless times as a child, I decided to introduce the book to my Year 4 class. They have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the tale and it has inspired even some reluctant writers to produce fantastic work in response to the story.
This is the story of Philip who is carried away on his kite to an island full of talking animals, a witch and of course magic. After some mixed up magic, Philip has arrived to be the ‘saver’, summoned to do battle against all evil in the form of the witch Oyin and her henchmen the Growlers. A classic tale of good conquering evil. Beaver Towers has all you expect from a children's book; excitement, adventure, suspense and of course humour. Baby B's character is fantastically written, my class have been laughing out loud at his actions, predicaments and antics. Each page is carefully written full of vivid detail and exciting dialogue, enticing you on, the children are always eager to hear what happens next not wanting me to stop reading even at hometime!

Beaver Towers is a book written by Nigel Hinton about a boy called Philip who is transported to an island by his kite. Here he meets some beavers, becomes their friend and finds out about the danger that threatens them in the form of the evil witch Oyin. Philip has the power to save the inhabitants of the island and the adventure ensues. This book is at times funny, scary and genuinely moving, with the characters all displaying their own special identity. The main character is brave and has a love for the animals he is trying to help. The main protagonist, the witch Oyin, is a really frightening character as are her minions. The author conveys a sense and fright that Baby B and Nick the Hedgehog have for the witch and her creatures. Baby B is probably one of the funniest characters I have seen in a children's book. Written long before Harry Potter was on the scene, if you like J. K. Rowling's writing then give this a try. One of the most intelligent, fun and well-written books I have read. If you like this book then there are more in the series, the next being Beaver Towers, the Witch's Revenge. Well worth the read!

As a student teacher, teaching my first series of English lessons was a really scary prosepect. But basing them around Beaver Towers was the best move I could ever have made. The children love the story, esp Baby B, who they couldnt stop laughing at. I totally recommend this book for children, Nigel Hinton is very gifted.
