Nice little book.,

This review is from: The Beauty of Straw Bale Homes (Paperback)
This is a nice little book about the beauty of straw bale homes. So the title actually tells exactly, what the content is. It has beautiful photos of many different types of straw bale homes from all over the world and shows how well straw bale homes can be built. But it is not a book that tells how to build a straw bale house and if that is what you are after, you should buy the other book these two authors have written "The Straw Bale House". This book is in my opinion a complementary book to other books about straw bale building as this book gives a more poetic picture of this type of houses. All in all a very nice little book.

I bought this thinking it would help with the technical aspects of straw bale building but in this respect it is very limited.however on the plus side you are directed away from the british 'must be square' attitude and moved towards the 'use your imagination' attitude and i like this. 4 stars only because i expected something else.

Very USA,

Whilst this book has great pictures I found the cover very seductive the text within has a very high focus on the USA. So I was a little disapointed as my focus is UK. It's not a how to book as such but is give a good overview of the asthetic side of building with straw bales. Even includes a classic tale of one chap who having found himself with a glut of straw just stuck it together with mortar brick laying style rendered it with concrete and it still serviceable 35 years later. Try that with UK planning rule you would be forced to tear it down and I support our planning process. This compares with the case study of the architect designed yoga centre incredibly organic and beautiful.Worth the money but missed target with me.
