Take That Present The Circus Live

Biography

Take That are an English five-piece pop-rock band consisting of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams. Barlow acts as the group's main singer songwriter. Formed in Manchester in 1990, the band achieved major success, selling more than 25 million records between 1991–96 alone before disbanding.[1] In 2005 the group reformed without Williams and achieved new success… Read more in Amazon's Take That Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It's been a long ten years since Take That disbanded. Their recent reformation and world tour offered overwhelming evidence that, far from being forgotten, the post-Robbie quartet can still command hysterical amounts of goodwill and adoration. Beautiful World illustrates why this is so. Written in conjunction with songwriter/producer John Shanks (Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Alanis Morissette), the album is crammed full with the songwriting magic that made their rise to fame so meteoric in the first place. Far from being an exercise in nostalgia, the project moves the band in a slightly new direction. The four come across as more mature, more democratic (all members share songwriting credits on the album, rather than just Barlow), and even more adept at making epic pop that somehow avoids the cheese factor. Lead single "Patience" is a perfect example of how powerful and accessible their songs can be. It'd be a good contender for the album's peak moment if the rest of the tracks weren't so damn good too. With traditional Take That style songs (the immediately likeable "Reach Out", the brimming "Like I Never Loved You At All"), nicely punctuated up by incongruous outings like Jason Orange's folkish "Wooden Boat" and Mark's upbeat, Beatles-esque "Shine", Beautiful World sets a whole new standard for a band previously known more for their singles than their long-players.--Danny McKenna

BBC Review

Since Take That broke a million girls' hearts ten years ago, the fans have grown up, the 'Smash Hits' era has ended and the boy band has taken note. Anyone expecting instant nostalgia from Beautiful World will be disappointed - it proved its worth on their comeback tour, but the new album has a more mature sound. It's pop but without the cheese. There are no covers and nothing to demand a choreographed dance routine to wear out the knees of "four old men" (their words, not mine). Their voices are stronger and the lead vocals (and writing credits) are shared.

"Patience" is already a worthy number one single, and the strongest tune on the album. It has its share of ballads but Jason's raw, acoustic folk "Wooden Boat"' is a stand-out track whilst Mark's "Shine" - a brilliant, Beatlesesque, funky pop song - is reminiscent of his solo work. "Mancunian Way" hints at their years out of the spotlight 'I just forgot how it is to feel / to dance and move and keep it real / been lying down for ten long years'. The title track is uplifting and "Like I Never Loved You At All" is lovely. It takes a few listens for some of the tracks to sink in and there's no "Back For Good", but it's a heart-warming album that fans will love. --Julie Broadfoot

I was fairly indifferent to Take That's previous material -- with the exception of "Back For Good" -- and wasn't sure whether or not to buy the new album purely on the strength of "Shine". I'm glad I did. It's a great album to de-stress to. The lyrics are beautiful and I think the music more mature than their previous stuff. There's quite a good mix from the traditional ballads, through to the Beatlesque Shine to the folky Wooden Boat, which personally I love, and I like that all 4 members of the band get to sing. Although I never missed them, I say Welcome Back Take That!

WOW! 9 Feb 2007
Format:Audio CD
Well what can I say the boys are better than EVER!

Howards wee grace in Mancunian way was sooooooooo sweet!

I think this album is their very best. Wooden boat has a very cool country/folk sound and I cried with I'd wait for life.

Shine and Hold on are undeniably marks best vocals.

I would recommend this to anyone even folk that were not die hard fans back in the olde days!

Welcome back MEN!

welcome back boys! 9 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
how brill is it to have these lads back! my sister was always a bigger fan of them than i was because she was older but i did love their old stuff, and now that they have matured, i think this album works so well.

it took time and a few listens for 'Patience' to grow on me but it has. my faves on the album are 'shine' and it has mark's fab voice singing it. it's such a happy song. and 'wooden boat' is sang beautifully by jason. and 'like i never loved you' is gorgeous.

it's a brill album and i recommend it to everyone. i actually think these boys are better with age and better without Robbie Williams, as much as i love him also. he's better solo. these guys are better together. :)

Review title says it all really. Even an old grandad like me can appreciate that TT are more than just a 90's boy band. Their return to the music scene has been well merited.
