5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Sublime! 9 Jun 2014
By MikeM
Finally a collection of songs by Gavin Clark. I have been hunting about for a couple of years for any available tracks from him and at last this album comes along. It is absolutely brilliant,i mean it,it is sensational. Every track is a miniature masterpiece. Among the very best tracks are 'the years have loved us','painted glass','bermondsey stutter' and what must be one of my all time favourite songs 'when we had faces'. All we can hope now is further albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Mr Meadows 20 July 2014
By Barmee
Gavin Clark and film director Shane Meadows ('Dead Man's Shoes', 'Made of Stone', 'This is England' etc) have been mates since they were lads. Their story is told on the touching little DVD ('The Living Room') that comes with this beautifully presented set of music.

As Meadows himself says "...I did everything [on the DVD] on really rubbish video tape, and most people would only show film. People would ask did you shoot it on 16mm or 35mm and I'd go, `It's shot on tape from Boots', so I had to set things up myself in this seedy cinema which used to show pornos...".

Shane's 'documentary' DVD is lovely in its simplicity but so is the main meat of this package. You get two vinyl discs as well as a CD of the same songs (presumably for uploading to your MP3 player or to play in your car (which hopefully has a better exhaust than Gavin's (see the DVD!)).

The whole thing looks very special - lots of photos of Gavin at different ages are used in the gatefold sleeve - but of-course the real test is in the content of the music. This most certainly does not disappoint. Most of the songs sound like (and it seems are/were demos). Shane had lovingly kept these songs whenever he was given them by Mr Clark from time to time during Gavin's career. Gavin has provided soundtracks to most of Shane's films and one or two of those are represented here (e.g. 'Raise a Vein' from Somers Town) but some are 'new' versions of songs or are simply unheard/unreleased songs that Shane has been stashing away for decades.

The tunes cover the whole length of Gavin's 20+ year musical career and include a few from his time with (much missed) Sunhouse.
