Saw these guys supporting Lightning Bolt a while back and only just got around to ordering this album and BRAVO!! They managed to capture the energy and feel of the live performance almost perfectly. The drummer is possibly the most interesting to watch as he has a strange arsenal of weird and wonderful percussion instruments scattered on the floor around his kit which he manically manipulates during the awkward, yet beautifully organic breakdowns.

Hard to believe this is only a 3 piece as the sound is so big. This is aided by the bass players programming skills on his PC, however, there are no guitars, bass or drums on the backing tracks, just sound effects to add to texture. Imagine 65 Days of Static but less solid with a more natural feel.

Love the broken, jagged guitars, the frantically melodic vocals, the climaxes and come downs in the music, the ambient breakdowns, the household jingling, crackling percussion, love the freaked out synths, love the album. Quite difficult to compare them to anyone really urrr, just see them live... if you can. Basically if you're a fan of music that dares to do something a bit different and which is a bit noisy whilst remaining melodic and powerful, this may be for you. Oh listen to me, I'm ramblin' agin! I can see this being a record I will listen to for years.

After reading a review of 'Beautiful Seizure' by volcano!, I was inclined to order the album and see what all the fuss was about, after only hearing one song on their myspace page. I was blown away from the first listen; this is an album so exciting and inviting in its many twists and turns that you can't help but pay attention. Every unpredictable twist and turn keeps you hooked in and then moments such as the a capella break on 'Easy Does It' are there to completely reel you in to the volcano! experience. A fantastic LP with more fantastic musical moments in two songs than most bands have in their careers.

Hmm, what to say about Volcano, i heard "Pulling my face in and ot of distortion i blink too much" on radio 2, and it was an interesting going to sleep song ... but not easy to sleep to either ... they seem to combine screaming sounds with grunting and coughing etc etc and a heavy metal-like background sound to it. Funky and refreshing but ultimately WEIRD!!
Buy it if you are a fan of "The monkey chant" and Steve Reich's interesting compositions. It is not for the faint hearted britney spears fans of teh world, it must be said. Therefore, give it a try everyone, particularly thos einterested in indie and odd styles from around the globe.

One of the best of 2005 30 Aug. 2006

This album is difficult to catagorize, but I'll do my best. Thom Yorke finds Marc Ribot heavily under the influence of Albert Ayler. The son of Paul Motian is angry with a taste for amphetamines. Someone spilled water on a computer. Throw it in a blender. Pour the goop into a DMT flash and that's what Beautiful Seizure sounds like. Don't let the drug references lead you to believe that this record is psychodelic or unfocused. Actually it's astounding how focused the final product is considering how rhythmically spastic and tense some of this record is. I heard recently that volcano! is taking a year break. Let's hope this break doesn't become permanent. Otherwise we'll never hear another record like this.
