I purchased this CD a few weeks back on Amazon and I play it constantly, it's absolutely superb.
I first became aware of South Korean Rock from the 70's through the essential Love Peace & Poetry volume of Asian Psychedelic Music. There is a track without a title on that album by one Shin Jung Hyun And The Men which transpires to be the title track of this Shin Joong Hyun CD. I was really impressed by the majesty and beauty of this song (as well as the other South Korean track on the Love Peace & Poetry volume by a band named San Ul Lim).
This is a really well put-together CD. Thorough and thoughtfully and intelligently written liner notes and lots of great pictures too. Clearly the work of people who have great respect for the artists and their music. Shin Joong Hyun worked with some great artists in South Korea and this CD is packed to the brim with some great music.
I had managed to track down some more material by Shin Joong Hyun and Kim Jung Mi before this CD came out so a little duplication was hardly a problem when I purchased this collection! The Kim Jung Mi track included here is absolutely beautiful by the way.
I love to hear rock from areas that are not well documented in the west. Psychedelic rock was not just confined to London and San Francisco! A few South Korean tracks have appeared on a few western released compiltaions but I believe this is the first full CD release of South Korean rock and it's a terrific introduction to it's Godfather of Rock Shin Joong Hyun too.
I cannot recommend this highly enough, as well as all the Love Peace & Poetry albums which have introduced me to many artists from around the world, often places that the west seems to have largely ignored.
I am hoping to go to South Korea soon to see what other albums I can find there!
