It's hard to put into words quite how beautifull Boards of Canada's music is. From the first time I sat & listened to their 'Music has the right to children' LP (After skipping through the tracks in a record shop before buying!) I was amazed. I've been into electronic music since I was at school & in around 15 years of listening to it I'd never heard anything as perfect as this. Their music is powerfull yet subtle, Dark yet uplifting, Nostalgic yet futuristic. BoC have taken electronic music to new hieghts & demonstrated as never before how to put soul & emotion into electronic music. This EP, for me, rates as one their best releases to date but all of their music is absolutely essential for any fan of electronic music.

If these hauntingly beautiful tracks fail to send you into a strangely bitter-sweet trance-like state as you reminisce about lovers past and summers gone by, then you must surely be a member of "Busted" & your soul lost forever...

Quite simply, if you enjoy listening to warm personal electronica, then this is the beginning and the end for you. Boards of Canada haven't released anything better.
If you like this check out Ulrich Schnauss.

I cried. Properly cried. Having never heard any other Boards of Canada music I bought their entire back-catalog based on this EP. The emotions it conjours up in everyone will be different, but with it's jaw-dropping slickness and beautifully gorgeous synth sounds echoing through your mind, it's bound to conjour up something. Buy it. It's an emotional experience.

beautiful, stunning and serene are just 3 words normally associated with the most innovative electronic band of the last 3 years and this e.p. is no different. each track reverberates with a stlye it takes many years to accomplish (ask thom yorke)and even with no press the songs fuel the myth that is boards of canada. if turquoise hexagon sun from 'music has the right....' is the name of the boards religion then'a beautiful place...' is the advert. i for one will be making myself a member very soon. absolutely unmissable th ee.p. of the year

well, it's unanimous then - a beautiful place is a wonderful place to be. With one single BOC have rendered swathes of my music collection obsolete - Spooky, Global Communication, Seefeel et al. It's so far ahead of the pack it's ridiculous and even the mighty Aphex Twin must be on notice to raise his game. The sounds are simple, warm, clear and, yes, beautiful - placed elegantly with the minimal precision of Mondrian. Lighting my days at the moment like a new colour, do please buy this and give it the exposure it richly deserves.

This EP offering from the Boards is a true masterpiece, the first three tracks blend into each other perfectly, each one reinforcing the presence of the last. Starting with 'kid for today' the recurring theme of childhood in the Board of Canada's work is ever present, as is the perfect timing and wonderful bass sound we have come to expect. Moving to 'Amo Bishop Roden', arguably one of the best electronica tracks ever recorded. The track flows until you are hit with two deep pulses followed by another pair which then repeat throughout the remainder and this combined with the slow movement of lift and descent creates something that truly enters your soul! Title track follows, and here you are confronted with the paradox that exists in much of the Boards work, asking 'is it sinister or joyful?' That is a matter for the listener, I prefer to listen to it to take me to joy and beauty. The childrens' laughter the ambience of the track, the bass all collude to create a utopian vision. The last 'Zoetrope' is almost superfluous as you will want to repeat the first three tracks again and again. Jes

There was this haunting, atmospheric melody that I once heard on a BMW commercial, (someone diving into an empty swimming pool, on top of a skyscraper, at night). This tune stuck in my mind and I tried to track it down, but with no luck. A couple of years later, I was playing Royksopp in my shop, when a customer came up to me and said 'have you heard of Boards of Canada?, they are similar to this, only better'. On the basis of that comment I bought the Goegaddi album and subsequently loved it. On the strength of that album, I bought up the entire BOC catalogue. Imagine my surprise when Kid of Today started playing, the classic BMW track.
For me, it is difficult to come up with the words to do BOC justice. They take music to the next level, blending beautiful sounds and melodies together, causing fantastic feelings and images to come to your mind. Their music is just so atmospheric and refreshing. They are also, amazingly consistent and if I was a film director I would sign them up. immediately.
Sadly, there are people out there that criticize BOC, these people, in my opinion, have no soul or imagination, they just don't get it.
