Matt Redman continues to inspire and deliver fantastic music based on good Christian principles. The lyrics are inspiring and the music is awesome. Awesome combination.

Brilliant, truly brilliant,

Matt Redman has grown on me. He has always been a gifted worship leader but I found alot of his early work quite wordy and stripped. Where Angel's Fear To Tread, was better, with some great songs and the introduction of what I think will be a classic, Blessed Be Your Name. However, with Facedown, Matt really shines and you can truly enter in and connect to this album. Blessed Be Your Name, Matt Redmans volume of worship songs is the breaking point, he has found his sound. The title track is stunning, and other tracks such as Let Everything That Has Breath just make you so excited. His gifting in prophetic worship is evident too.
All Matt Redman needed to do was to go back to the studio, with two fantastic live albums under his sleeve and the experience from his other average (yet well produced) studio albums and come out with a classic. And that he has. This album is absolutely stunning. I, for one, prefer female worship leaders because I find many men sing too high, and their albums just never make the mark (apart from Brenton Brown's new release). But this album, is just beautiful. The title track is powerful and is built up. The track "Shine" is so uplifting, and "Take It To The Streets" is just a brilliant track. You often find, with worship singers/leaders, their albums can have some poor slower songs that you can't really connect to, but with Matt's new studio release this isn't the case. "If You Know You're Loved By The King" just finishes the album with me smiling because it may be slow but it truly is beautiful. The song may only be four lines long but Matt gives it life and depth and just makes me smile when I hear it. This is one of my favourite albums because it has so many genres all built in, from praising and celebration, to proclamation, to the trinity etc. An album well worth buying.

ON THE ONE HAND -
The boy has done good again, just as he has with pretty much every album since he hit his stride with `Passion for your name' in 1995. The range the subjects for his songs is wide. The range of his music is not, so here we have yet another album of sanctified Britpop. However this is about as far from his last album of new songs as it is possible to get within worship music. `Facedown' was an intimate recorded live at the worship event CD. This is a (mainly) extroverted, often terrace chant like studio album with full on wall-of-sound production. The production isn't a complete success: some of the instruments, and some of the vocals are blunted in the mix. A fair number of these songs deserve to become modern worship classics. `You never let go' is a powerful song on similar territory to `Blessed Be You Name' about God being with us in all circumstances: good and bad. `Shine' is an interesting mix of call to worship and holiness. `Thank you for healing me' is perhaps the most telling song here beginning `The disease of my soul was spreading' before turning of Jesus' restoring life. `Fearfully and Wonderfully made' is a similarly affecting thank you to our Creator. Then there are the good news shouting terrace chants: first song `Beautiful News' and `Take it to the Streets' Matt Redman had a good concept behind this album that he explained well on a Premiere TV interview earlier this year. He talked about producing `worship for blokes' without the `I lurve you' type lyrics. I chuckled when I heard someone refer to them as `Jesus is my girlfriend' type lyrics. You won't find any of that stuff here. He also talked about going through the Bible away from the text that have been set to music a hundred (thousand?) times before and exploring new subjects. He has delivered ON THE OTHER HAND - Everything about an album is fair game for a review - and that includes price. I'm looking at this in October 8th 2007 - and - gulp! £18.49!!!!!!!! And no cheaper locally sourced version available on amazon.co.uk . What sort of death wish do Christian record companies in the UK have at the moment? Most new Christian Cds are either coming up at silly prices on amazon.co.uk or not being put on this site. At this price this doesn't derserve more than two stars. Normally I'd give it four. I challenge you Survivor Records. Put this album on here at the same price as at Christian Bookshops and I'll take down this version of this review and put it back up with a higher star rating.
