Product Description

Product Description

Preparation for birth is often marked by fear and anxiety but this need not be the case. Birth is a natural process with which a woman's body is designed to cope. A pregnant woman who is physically and emotionally prepared for the experience will have a much more positive birth experience and is better able to manage labour and delivery. The techniques that enable a pregnant woman to become more in touch with her body and baby can be learned and practised at home. As many are done with a partner, the techniques also can strengthen the relationship between expectant parents and make the dad more a part of the birth process. Even if medical intervention is required, the breathing and visualisation techniques, postures and massage routines demonstrated in the book can help make the birth a more positive experience. This book is a practical guide to preparing the body and mind for birth, and will provide the 'tools'--- touch, breathing/visualisation, postures and physical preparation, that can ease pain and promote progress. It will explain how to practise the techniques during pregnancy and how to adapt them, if necessary, in labour. The techniques are easy to learn and practice and are suitable for all types of deliveries. The book will guide both partners through the labour and delivery experience pinpointing when specific techniques will be most effective for pain relief or progressing the baby's descent.

5.0 out of 5 stars informative, practical and positive, 13 Jan 2009

This review is from: Beautiful Birth: Practical Techniques to Help You Achieve a Happier and More Natural Labour and Delivery (Paperback)
Having trained with Suzanne, I know what a skilled practitioner she is. It's great that she has brought out a book distilling all her excellent knowledge in a really easy to read format. There are plenty of practical ideas here for labour and birth, massage techniques, breathing and visualisation and birth partner information. With clear pictures illustrating the text, it's easy to apply the techniques.

This is one to share with your partner so get it early on in your pregnancy so you can have a good read through before going into the bits you like best in more detail. I will be recommending it to all my pregnant clients!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for mums wanting a natural birth, 12 Feb 2011
This review is from: Beautiful Birth: Practical Techniques to Help You Achieve a Happier and More Natural Labour and Delivery (Paperback)
Similar to some of the other reviews for this book, I have also trained with Suzanne and have been delivering natural birth workshops ever since. When Suzanne released this book I was really please to see that she had captured everything and more that she taught us making this book a fantastic resource for any birth practitioner from massage therapist, shiatsu practitioner, doula to midwife.

More importantly this book is a must for any mum wanting a natural birth. It has fantastic illustrations and is broken into sections making it easy to follow and reference back to if needed.

I have reviewed many books as both a therapist and a mum myself and this one ticks all the boxes if you are looking for a positive natural approach to childbirth.

This book was really interesting for me as I am a pregnancy yoga teacher and a shiatsu practitioner. I have learnt a lot from it as it is full of interesting information and is easy to follow (even if you know nothing about shiatsu). I found it so interesting that I went on a shiatsu for pregnancy and labour course with Suzanne. This book is a great resource for anyone pregnant or interested in pregnancy, labour, shiatsu and massage.
