While they now live in Los Angeles, Pepper Rabbit was practically born in New Orleans. In fact, the NOLA sessions for their debut LP (Beauregard) left such a lasting impression on the young duo that it continues to haunt this summer’s Red Velvet Snow Ball album, from the surreal art on its sleeve to the cake-flavored snow cone that gave the mind-expanding record its name.

I dont understand why this band isn't more popular than it is. I love every single song of this album but my favourite is probably 'older brother'. I have noticed, that you cant preview songs of the album on amazon but there is a playlist of the whole album on youtube. I would recommend this to anyone!

flippin beautiful 28 Oct. 2010

Pepper Rabbit'll get you. Some of the these songs are so bitter-sweet you'll be pushed to the edge of tears; this is some gorgeous song-writing here. On top of this, the vocals are nearly perfect. These melodies were written to stick, and they definitely do. Pay attention to the lyrics and your in for a trance of sorts. So far my favs are Red Wine and Older Brother.
Amazing Album 11 Aug. 2013

Great album here, the songs are all amazing. Whenever I go out biking or am on the computer I have the album playing, I definitely suggest it to anyone looking for some good music. Pepper Rabbit is an amazing band that needs to be more popular. I would also suggest their album Red Velvet Snow Ball, which has a bit more positive feel to it, where as this is a bit sad, but not too sad, it is a little bittersweet I suppose. Just get them and you will understand!
Amazing debut album! Buy it! 17 Oct. 2011

I don't know why this band isn't getting more love - this is simply an amazing debut album. I heard 'Older Brother' and loved it last year, but didn't really dive into the band until I caught wind of Red Velvet Snow Ball, at which time I got this for free through a deal. I'm so glad I did!

While I like Red Velvet Snow Ball a touch more overall (the mood is a lot brighter on that album), this album has many, many important moments in music that should not be missed by fans of indie genres.

Song by song:

Clarinet Song opens with a slow, flowing, melodic lament - it's soothing, haunting, and sad. Harvest Moon continues that lament, but this time with some banjos and really nice brass. In The Spirit of Beauregard may be a touch esoteric for some, but I think it's a solid track with some very interesting vocals and pianos. The vocals on Red Wine are haunting, and will definitely get stuck in your ears. Snowalker is gorgeous, with banjos returning, great atmospheric vocals, and a doting clarinet melody. Older Brother is a great piece of music, and is their most popular song... but I think it's overly popular, compared with the rest of their mostly-unknown work! None Shall Sleep is good, not quite my favorite, but still fits well with the rest of the album. Song For A Pump Organ is good background music, though one of the least strong of the album. Babette! is a rocking-though-melancholic ditty that is experimental and plain great - the cascading computery/xylophony sounds that hit your ears at around 1:20 are just inventive as hell. The closing track Send In The Horns is a decent capstone for the album - vocals kinda remind me of Band of Horses here.

All in all, an album that you should buy if you're digging their sound. Don't expect it all to sound like Older Brother - it's bigger than that! But certainly with the same emotional depth. Pepper Rabbit is highly recommended listening!
