Product Description

Product Description

More than 200 of Potter's finest paintings and drawings are featured in full color in this magnificent book which demonstrates this beloved illustrator's wide range of artistic skills.

About the Author

Anne Stevenson Hobbs, curator of the Beatrix Potter collection at the V&A, has made a selection of Beatrix Potter's finest paintings and drawings, covering the whole range of her subjects and styles. As the creator of one of the world's most celebrated children's characters, Beatrix Potter has rarely been seen as a talented and versatile artist in her own right as in many ways the outstanding success of her 'little books' has overshadowed her other achievements. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A Real Delight 12 May 2001
By M. Schaeffer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is an outstanding book and a must-have for those who love Beatrix Potter's work. While most people think of Potter as the author of those delightful children's books, this book shows the full range of her work. Anne Stevenson Hobbs did an outstanding job in presenting the art in a very enjoyable manner - a real plus for those lucky enough to own this book.

New respect for this artist. 20 Feb 2010
By A. Garavaglia - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A nice overview of Potter's work that includes studies of insects, nature, found objects. You really see a terrific artist here that I think is underestimated by artists who follow the school of serious content over technical ability. Always great to see the artistic power behind an illustrator known for children's books. When my cynical students sniff at lack of content and fluff as not being true art, I have them copy Potter's renderings of animals and her amazing drawing techniques. They end up with a new found respect. This book adds variation to the understanding of her work as well as an appreciation of her commitment to preservation of land, which was her greatest contribution. Nice plates, various studies in pen, graphic, watercolor and oil. Recommend.

Beautiful range of Potter's art. 1 Nov 2011
By Pugfish - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Love, love, love this beautiful book. Someone showed it to me in my botany drawing class. I had to have it. Her fungi, mushrooms, flowers and rabbit world are excellent. Her botanical work is little known. Very inspiring for me in drawing. A must for fans of Potter and people who love to draw, want to draw and dream to draw and watercolor too!
