This was a compelling read for me. I found Noelle Harrison's descriptive writing, particularly her descriptions of the countryside, added to the atmosphere wonderfully. It's a tragic tale, full of mystery, secrets, romance and heartbreak. The characters are wonderfully written and I really cared about Beatrice and wanted to hear her story. I thought I had pieced together how the book would end, but I was taken by surprise by the final outcome.

I really enjoyed this atmospheric story set mostly in Ireland.switching between different timescales and characters can sometimes leave me with an emotional detatchment from the main protagonists. In this book I felt the different strands were interwoven nicely and the fate of beatrice was incidental compared to the fates of the other main characters. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Couldn't put it down
I've just finished reading this book. I couldn't put it town. The language and descriptions were beautiful. One of the best books I've read in a long time. An absolute page turner.
