The biggest band in the history of music is making their video game debut exclusively via Rock Band. Made with the full backing of the surviving Beatles, and the families of Lennon and Harrison, this is no expansion pack but a full-bloodied standalone game filled with special features.
For years this U.S. developer toiled away in obscurity, with critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful music games such as Frequency and Amplitude. Then they made Guitar Hero and the rest was history. They were bought by MTV Studios in 2006, when they started work on Rock Band.

Featuring an interactive voyage through The Beatles' career, the game includes not just their most memorable songs but also venues such as The Cavern Club, Abbey Road Studios and surreal dreamscape settings.
The basic gameplay is similar to Rock Band 2, with players able to play along as virtual band members on either guitar, vocals (including harmonies for the first time) or drums. Do well and you can unlock video and audio clips - some of which have never been released before in any other medium. For any Beatles fan this is the most exciting new experience to arrive in decades.

I have finally taken delivery of the limited edition of this game and have to say that it is absolutely stunning. The gameplay and particularly the attention to detail is second to none.
Securing the Beatles franchise is the biggest prize in the music video game genre and the Rock Band people have certainly made sure that the game credits the legend. The instruments supplied (Hofner Violin Bass and Ludwig drums) are beautifully detailed, particularly the guitar and are solid and well constructed. The drums have been 'enthusiastically' tested by my seven year old and have stood up to the battering admirably. One word of warning would be that to play three instruments together - guitar, drums and microphone (or another guitar), you will need to install a USB hub onto the PS3. I thought that the USB connections on the guitars 'dongle' (their word not mine) would allow the microphone to be played through it but this didn't work so we had to get a hub before we could all play together. That's a minor complaint really and only a complaint that it is not readily advertised or mentioned in the manual. The game itself is really good fun to play for kids and adults alike. My ten, seven and four year old have not been off it since it arrived and it is only when they have gone to bed that I get a go! It is real testimony, if testimony were needed, of the quality and appeal of the Beatles music that it is being celebrated by children and adults alike, forty years after they have stopped making music. I think that because all of the songs are so familiar, it increases the enjoyment of the game-one bugbear I have with the other games in this and the Guitar Hero franchise is that you may only choose six out of forty songs that you like/enjoy/can stand that you want to play. This isn't the case here, all of the songs present their own challenges and are enjoyable to listen to as well as play. I defy anybody to stand up with the guitar and not have their foot tapping along at the same time. The available song lists did strike me as being a little short but when there is a back catalogue such as this available, it is inevitable that there is going to be big business to be made from purchasing songs from the online shop, not a criticism as such, it adds more depth to the game and, in fact, I'm just off to go and see whats available!

This product is absolutely brilliant and has been enjoyed by the whole family - Mum and Dad, 14 year son, his 20 year old brother and 18 year sister. We didn't stop playing Christmas Day although everyone was itching to play the drums. Can be thoroughly recommended and money well spent!!
