Product Description

Product Description

The epidemic of stress, anxiety and depression that is sweeping the Western world is accompanied by huge social, economic and personal costs. This accessible and groundbreaking book is designed to help sufferers, their families and health professionals. The authors, both former sufferers, argue that the medical profession's current approach is not working. They dispel the fear and prejudice surrounding mental illness and present a new, effective programme for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression. They describe the successes that they and others have achieved through new treatment methods. You will discover your risk factors and how to reduce them, how mental health problems can be diagnosed more effectively and how to ensure the best possible treatment. They go on to present the 10 lifestyle factors that affect the likelihood of developing anxiety and depression, and reveal the 10 food factors that can improve mental well-being. BEATING STRESS, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION is essential reading for sufferers and their families.

First Sentence
IT MAY SEEM STRANGE to begin a book about beating stress, anxiety and depression with the nursery rhyme that inspired the title of one of the most dark and controversial books about mental illness, but One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - and in particular the 1975 film version starring Jack Nicholson - has done a great deal to influence the public perception of mental illness. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read book for anyone suffering from depression, 13 May 2008
By Mr. Peter N. Ralph (Twickenham Therapy Centre) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is an extremely helpful book, both for sufferers and their families, and also health professionals.
Janet and Jane have exposed a number of shortcomings of the conventional approaches of the medical and mental health services. They guide the individual towards seeking the best treatment in an easy to understand manner.
They expose the dangers of mis-diagnosis and inappropriate medication prescription and their experiences reveal the depths to which this can subject intelligent, professional people. Their stories do, however, show how it is possible (and necessary!) to obtain the correct advice and how important diet and therapy can be.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Peter N Ralph
