Product Description

Product Description

At some point in their lives, nearly everyone experiences being bullied: by brothers, sisters, neighbours, adults and schoolmates. Many people dismiss it as 'a normal part of one's development'. But it isn't.Bullying can ruin people's lives. In some extreme cases, it can even lead to self-harming, suicide and even murder. This book brings together some of the most profoundly moving stories of people whose lives were on the brink of ruin but who fought back against all odds and beat their bullies. For some, the bullying went on for years; for others it was less frequent. And in each case, it took a different form - from gang bullying, workplace bullying, verbal bullying, or the newest form: cyber and text bullying. But one thing they all have in common is their determination and courage to stand up to their tormentors.Challenging, powerful and inspiring, "Beating the Bullies" celebrates the victims and their fighting spirit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite a useful book, 6 Nov 2010
This review is from: Beating the Bullies: True-Life Stories of Triumph Over Violence, Intimidation and Bullying (Paperback)
I bought this book for my 12-year old son who was on the receiving end of verbal bullying when moving to high school from primary school. He was the only child from his primary to move to this high school, and because of this was the target of verbal bullying.

Did this book help him in any way? - I would say that it provided him with an insight into other peoples own experiences (some so much greater than his own) and how in each story those concerned show determination not to let the bullies get the better of them. He found the tips at the back useful. Of note, this book gives both child and adult bullying experiences at school and in the workplace.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring, 19 Aug 2009
By concerned reader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Beating the Bullies: True-Life Stories of Triumph Over Violence, Intimidation and Bullying (Paperback)
The author meant well but the stories she used to extol the resistance to and defeat of bullying could've been more inspiring. If you feel "all violence is wrong" and there are "no winners" to it, then this book will confirm your notions to quit and cry "Uncle!" by default. It's got the right idea, but just not "muscular" enough (too much victimhood, therapy, dependence, lack of gall, etc.) to pull it off.
