A timely reminder of the beauty of Britain,

In his book Mr Bathurst presents to us the amazing variety of the humble British countryside. In light of the recent disasters that have befallen us, such as foot and mouth, it is important to focus on the beauty of our island as represented by numerous painters and poets. The Beaten Track helps us do exactly that. This light-hearted and informative book describes the great English tradition of walking, and guides both experienced and inexperienced walkers along well-established routes around virtually the whole of Great Britain. A timely reminder for everyone that holidays in Britain can be far more enjoyable and worthwhile than foreign tours.

I haven't done many of the 'big walks' in this book - and really only done bits of the easy ones, but this book is designed so that you can dip into it when and where you need to. Mr Bathurst writes in a very reader-friendly style that has you chuckling as you walk, with astute observations, and the funnier bits of history about things that you see along the way. You don't have to be an experienced walker to enjoy most of these walks (which is lucky, because I'm not!). Highly recommended!
