Format:Audio CD
This is no `Nouvelle Vague' or `Bande A Part'
It seems this is the principals behind Nouvelle Vague making (and therefore endorsing) a double CD compilation of other performers covers of well known songs. So yes I am disappointed if only in myself for not understanding what I was buying.
Notwithstanding that, what do I think of this compilation? It is entertaining and I am sure that younger listeners may be fascinated by some of the interpretations, however for someone who lived through Punk and New Wave some of these covers were lame then and have not really improved with the passage of time.
There is no way Ronny's If You Want Me To Stay can even get close to Sly and what on earth were Snake Finger even thinking of with their rendition of Model?
There are more duffs than sublimes but are there any stand out tracks? Yes!
Devo's Satisfaction takes Mick & Keef (and Otis) to a new level; The Original Mirrors's Reflections turns sad to angst (but I must add that it was better live when Steve Allen was still Enrico Cadillac in Deaf School) and Elton Motello provides a translation to Belgium's only Punk classic of which I will be eternally grateful; although I am glad I did not hear the English translation in the late `70's. I just don't think my nanna would have understood!
Despite all I have said, should you buy it? Yes, for under 7 quid for 24 tracks it is still a bargain and it does have novelty value that will keep any party conversation going well into the night. But make no mistake, it is no where near NV's first two efforts and some may say "quite rightly so."

Having read the reviews below I was in two minds about buying this album. I loved the last two Nouvelle Vague albums, saw a couple of good reviews in the papers over the weekend and so thought for just over a tenner I'd take a chance. I'm really glad I did and I think people are really missing the point. This is a fascinating, and on several listens, very addictive electropop journey. As Marc Collin's sleeve notes point out it is the music that inspired him to create Nouvelle vague and an excellent selection of electropop it is at that. I loved the robotic cover of Mothers Little Helper by Polyphonic Size, Comateens version of "Summer in the city" and The Slits take on "I heard it through the grapevine" is pure bassliner groove. If you like Nouvelle vague and the 80's BUY THIS RECORD.

There simply isn't a bad track here - it absolutely reeks of je ne sais quoi, joi de vivre, and Le bruit de l'été...In an age where compilation albums are ten a penny - stand outs are few and far between. Was very excited but it was a bit dissapointing
I'm a big fan of NV and rushed to buy the first copy only to be left a bit dissappointed and wishing i had instead just downloaded the tracks or borrowed the cd from a friend. Read more
