Product Description

Tom likes fooling around. In fact, he's really rather good at it, much to the annoyance of his Aunt Fidget Wonkham-Strong. So one day this fearsome lady decides to teach Tom a lesson and summons Captain Najork and his Hired Sportsmen. How will Tom fare against the awesome Captain and his highly trained team as he takes them on at womble, muck and sneedball? Can this possibly end well for all concerned?

Captain Najork has been a favourite in our house since my 16 year old son Tom enjoyed 'fooling around'. It is one of the funniest children's books ever and if you enjoy a bit of quirkiness in the style of Quentin Blake then this book is for you. Parts of this book have become standard conversation in our house, 'eat your mutton and your cabbage and potato sog'and 'She fancies you, I can tell by the way she looks sideways from underneath her iron hat.'
Having lost our copy several years ago, we were so pleased to buy this and share it with Martha aged 4 and laugh over and over again.
Wonderful.

This is the most marvellous surreal chidren's story (and fun for the reading adult as well - even when read to a delighted child over and over again!) It would be exceptional as a story alone, but it is Quentin Blake's illustrations which make it one of the best children's books in the world. I am entirely delighted that it is back in print and I can now continue to give it to new generations of children.

This book and its successor provide an unparelleled guide to the challenge and joy of humour and laughter in a world that sometimes makes it difficult to see the wood from the trees. Any boy or girl who reads it should pass it to the adults who they love as a treat and comfort.
