Book Description

13 May 2010

Banks make their money from our money; it's the nature of their business. They profit from our ignorance by selling us 'products' we don't actually need and have a vested interest in keeping us in the dark.

Jasmine's no-nonsense, practical advice will help you to:

- Make the most of your savings and watch your money grow

- Get free money from the government by using up your ISA allowance

- Pay off your mortgage quickly, even though the banks don't want you to

- Invest in stocks and shares the cheap and easy way

- Ensure a safe and profitable retirement by choosing the right pension

So, it's time to fire your bank manager, beat the banks at their own game and ensure the profits end up in your pocket, not theirs!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction for Beginners!! 20 Aug 2010
By Darcy
Format:Paperback
I thought I would mention from the offset that the author has a website, which she highlights several times during the course of this book, just in case, we the readers suffer from amnesia.

The author will also have you believe that the world is coming to an end and that everyone who works in a bank and/or financial services sector is non trustworthy. Other than that, I think Jasmine has done a brilliant job in putting together a useful beginner's guide to where to put your money and how to make it work better for you.

You will find interesting topics on what to do with your money, as well as learn the basics of investing in shares and collective funds. Some other areas which we found quite interesting, but will require further research, include; ETFs, Index Funds, Buy-to-let and investing in gold.

If you are a total novice to the world of making your money work hard, opposed to the other way around, then this book is certainly worth reading and then expanding your knowledge on areas that are of most interest to you and within your risk factor.

This book is written in a clear, lucid style on how best to manage your money - quite topical given the current economic conditions. It appears to be aimed primarily towards novice investors who are seeking ways to maximise their return on capital. It explains some of the basic principles of money management in an informative and user-friendly manner.

I quite liked the chapter on investing in shares. If you are not too inclined to read the tomes of Ben Graham, Burton Malkiel or Seth Klarman, this chapter should provide a reasonably robust summary.

The book is highly recommended and will not disappoint readers - both young and experienced alike. If you decide to follow some of the advices given, I am sure you will recoup your initial investment on this book many, many times over...! Five stars as I believe the book is worth it.
