Amazon.co.uk Review

One day something amazing happens. A bear drops out of the sky into Sophie's playpen! At first, Sophie's big brother thinks it's a teddy bear. But then it grabs Sophie's drink and biscuit.

All kinds of hilarious adventures ensue, during which the bear is rather naughty, and Sophie gets the blame. Then the bear is discovered helping himself to a noisy, messy midnight feast. The next day "a serious man in a serious hat" comes to look at him. But the surprises don't end there for Sophie and her brother. Or, indeed, for YOU.

This unsurpassable book is funnier, wackier and safer than having a real, live bear in your house. Honest. (Ages 3 and over)--Lisa Gee --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

By Mirage HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This review is for the 1998 paperback edition.

This story is about the bear who makes a dramatic entrance into baby Sophie's playpen, and plops right into the middle of the storybook you are reading, theoretically! He gets up to all sorts of mischief.....like bears do....and because he is initially kept a secret, things don't go quite like they usually do!
He is very naughty, gets Sophie into trouble, goes to school with her brother, eats peanut butter sandwiches, disappears, has a rather messy feast in the kitchen, gets on the wrong side of the law.....who 'points' the finger.......then.......
Oh dear!

A bouncing bear decorates the paperback cover which opens to 32 high quality shiny pages, in 2-page spread format.

Colourful illustrations throughout, with endearing expressions on the faces, especially 'the bear' and Baby Sophie!

Bold, easy-to-follow text.

Example of text:-

'A small whooshing sound.
The a plop!
A bounce.
And a kind of squeak.
That was how the bear landed in my baby sister's playpen.
Have you ever had a bear fall out of the sky, right in front of you?
At first I thought he was a teddy bear.
He just lay there, crumpled on the quilt.
Then he got up and took Sophie's drink.
And her biscuit.
That's when I knew he was real....'

Love it!

My little boy, now two and a half, has loved this book since it was bought for him about a year ago. In typical Mick Inkpen style, it includes adventure, relationships and fun in a format that gives the child (and parent!) every chance to get involved.
