Since first hearing Brandi on Jools Holland singing tunes from 'The Story' I've loved her work, and 'Bear Creek' is simply wonderful. The full range is here, from the folksy, singalong numbers, to power tunes, the gentle to the rocking. Brandi's fabulous vocal range is on full display here. Why she's not a global megastar is beyond me, this girl's the real deal.

I kills me not to give this album 5 stars because Brandi is ridiculously talented, but Live At Benaroya Hall With The Seattle Symphony is her best. Bear Creek has a much stronger country sound, which is great if you like that sort of thing. The opening song is superb but the ballads on this album fell a bit flat, which is surprising and disappointing since they are normally a great strength of hers. Still, the album is unique and Brandi stays true to her roots here.

Brandi Carlile's sound is very much country / folk inspired, with a current, modern twist. I've heard her genre described also as "alternative country" or "alt-country". A lot of her songs are on the mellow side which I like. I've liked Brandi Carlile's other albums and Bear Creek is another great one.

This album contains the tracks:
- The Hard Way Home
- Raise Hell
- Save Part of Yourself
- That Wasn't Me
- Keep Your Heart Young
- 100
- A Promise to Keep
- I'll Still Be There
- What Did I Ever Come Here For
- Heart's Content
- Rise Again
- In the Morrow
- Just Kids

It isn't often I like all the songs on an album but this was the case in this album. My favourites are "That Wasn't Me", "What Did I Ever Come Here For" and "Heart's Content".

Really good, well produced and written with beautiful vocals.
I've listened to it again and again over the past few weeks and I'm sure it will be one of the albums I go back to time and time again to years to come. I've also got The Story on CD which is really good, but this one is better. A bit more upbeat and varied than her earlier stuff.

Track 4 "That wasn't me" probably the best track, very unusual subject but I won't spoil it.....

All of Brandi's albums I love. "Brandi Carlile" "The Story" "Give up the Ghost" and "Live at Benaroyal Hall" were great albums with some great songs. This album for me has a bit too much country for my liking, but there are some lovely songs on it like "Save part of Yourself" "That was'nt me" "I'll still be there" and "Heart's Content".
It is very well produced and Brandi's voice as always is delicious. I wanted to give it a five star rating as I really love Brandi's voice and her songs, but compared to her other albums this does not quite excite me in the same way. It does improve further into the album as it becomes less country. Overall I liked it but not enough to give it five stars. I still can't wait for her next album as she is such an exciting singer and has a great band.

"Bear Creek" by Brandi Carlile is a cd that combines folk, bluegrass, pop, and country. "Hard Way Home", "Save Part of Yourself", and "100" are among some of the decent songs on this cd. I was hoping for more country pop and/or country rock songs. However, "Bear Creek" is best for those who enjoy folk and/or bluegrass music.
