Product Description

Review

Lisa Kan's designs are inspired by Art History and, as the title of the book suggests, all have a romantic but elegant feel to them. This book features fifteen step-by-step designs with Gothic, Renaissance, Victorian and Art Nouveau influences. Lisa manages to mix vintage findings with seed beads, lampwork, buttons and modern components. This book is ideal for any beadworker as it features all the traditional stitches. Each project builds on simple elements to create sophisticated designs. Projects include a scalloped chain necklace, pearl Ndebele earrings and a bracelet set, mesh pearl bracelet and bohemian drop earrings. Beginners can progress through projects and increase their skills while more advanced beaders will find new challenges in the designs. --Beadworkers Guild Journal, July 08

This is definitely not for beginners, and even for intermediate and advanced beaders it's not for the faint hearted! The projects are very elaborate and complicated, but they look very beautiful and are worth the extra work.

However the instructions are quite difficult to follow, and there are no photos of the instructions only illustrations. This book is only for people who have done lots of beading and jewellery making before, and already have a lot of skill under their belt.

Wearing the designs you'll feel you're back in the Regency though, so I'd say if you are an advanced jewellery maker it's worth getting.

Don't be afraid! These designs are beautiful, and complicated, and I had many false starts! It's true, some of the instructions are a little ambiguous, but stick with it and your finished pieces will be as beautiful as those in the pictures.

I wouldn't say I'm an advanced beader, but I have made a lot of seed-bead jewellery in the past and I think that helped. That said, I've now made several pieces from this book, and friends are asking for necklaces for Christmas!

A little practice and patience will see you right. Also, check out Lisa's website for exact colours on the Japanese beads - much faster than trying to hunt for them by name.

I find this book a real inspiration, yes the designs are difficult but well worth the challenge. I am not an advanced beader and at my senior age I still love a challange and my family love beaded gifts at birthdays and xmas. They love the one offs that I have made frome this book.

Good section of jewellery, mainly dressy but some items can easily be made for daytime wear by simply using plainer colours in beads. Very good recomendation for an Ebay seller who makes some crystals eminately affordable in her supplier listings. Only downside is some of findings are difficult to obtain in UK - obtainable USA but very costly eg 2 beadcaps $69 to complete a necklace.

Very clear instructions, my only problem in the UK is sourcing the variouse types of bead. But imagination is a wonderful thing, and I soon was able to start substituting what is available! The designs here opened up a whole new style for me. A book to always have at your side.
