Book Description

10 Dec 2000
Two of the world's most experienced embroiderers show how to make a variety of beads for hand and machine embroidery. Emphasizing how beads add color, texture and beauty to a piece of work, they guide the reader through a variety of traditional and contemporary techniques, including bead weaving; sewing "trapped" beads; stitching beads onto mesh and canvas; and adding them to fringes, edges, cords, chains, and tassels.

For anyone interested in working with beads this book is for you. Whether you be a beginner or have used beads previously you will find something to delight you in this book. All the projects have detailed explanations so you aren't left wondering "what do I do next?" The pictures inspire you to start beading and as you work through the book the authors enthusiasm is catching. You'll learn what the types of beads are, why you'd use one kind over another, how to choose the design for you and how to execute it. Value for money and highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Modern Art 18 Feb 2008
By Keri M. Peardon - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is very much geared towards modern art. While the materials listing is comprehensive (i.e. defining the materials that you might use to embroider), and the how-to diagrams seem to be good (I already knew how to embroider, so I didn't need help there), this book is completely geared to modern-art creations. Which didn't help me at all, seeing how I do medieval bead embroidery. I think there was one picture of a Victorian embroidery and that was it.

Also, it didn't have patterns to follow. It's pretty much nothing more than a modern-art idea book.
