This isn't the CD to find Paxton's greatest hits-which were always under other names like the Hollywood Argyles or Skip & Flip but is to show the wide range of music he put out during the 60s many times creating one off labels like GSP (Gary Sanford Paxton) and others which incorporated his name after the Garpax idea (GARLLO).Many times a song or instrumental would be recorded before a name was allocated so many of the Paxton records were one offs and a case of "throw enough mud at the wall and some may stick"
Though Paxton's hit making days may have gone by the mid 60s the fact is that most of these records could have become hits if radio play had been sufficient or the British Invasion and Tamla Motown had never happenned.

For the Surf and Hot Rod Music Collector

This is a well packaged collection by Ace Records out of Great Britain of early to mid-1960s beach and gearhead productions overseen by maverick producer Gary Paxton, he of the Hollywood Argyles and "Alley Oop fame, as well as producing Bobby "Boris" Pickett's classic "Monster Mash" single.
You are not going to find any hits here from the standpoint of what typcially passes for surf and drag music on "oldies" radio stations. Instead, you'll find great "should have been a hit" singles and songs that were made with Paxton's involvement or oversight in the hopes they would be picked up by a major label and promoted, made all the more interesting by virture of what was captured on tape in spite of the limited budgets most of these songs were produced on. Paxton essentially worked for himself, so he recorded what interested him, which is about 180 degrees opposite of how music is produced today. So, if you are into this era and type of music, and can appreciate a DIY ethic, you won't be disappointed with this purchase.
