Difficult to really pin down a final thought on this year's Beach House. As soon as the outstanding opener of Ben Westbeech's Falling came through the speakers I was sure I was onto a winner but the rest of Disc 1 just passed me by until I thought it had been replaced with Disco Kandi without my knowledge. Not a samba or latin groove to be heard. Just 14 tracks that while not particularly bad would not have you pressing the repeat button any time soon...
Disc 2 steps up the quality somewhat with some Beach House classics. Thick Dick's Insatiable and tracks from Ian Pooley & Miguel Migs just about making up for the criminal fade out of Kings of Tomorrow - Finally.
The saving grace of Beach House 2011, however, is the Sunset Mix by Ben Santiago. This is what a soundtrack to a loved up summer session should sound like. Tracey Thorn's - Without Me is simply sublime and from here the set just builds and builds - for any lover of feel good deep house this is worth the purchase alone.
So after a near flawless Serve Chilled, Beach House 2011 is slightly disappointing but Disc 3 saves the day - just!
