A family from London move to Brighton to run a hotel. In order for them to publicise the hotel they set up a musical talent show the 'Amateur Upstarts' and every local band believes it could be their one chance at the big time; including The Nightshades and even Jerry Lee Lewis. However the show has been rigged and it becomes a competition to beat the rigged clap-o-meter.

THE BRIGHTON BEAT 9 Nov 2008
Format:DVD
This little film takes us back to the sixties before it really got swinging.David Hemmings plays a young lad whose family moves into a guest house in Brighton whilst he and his mates from London(including a very young Steve Marriott of the Small Faces) enjoy life by the sea and end up writing a pop tune.A Simon Cowell figure tries to find young talent in Brighton and aims to put it up against the Liverpool MerseyBeat. The bloke who plays Sid James son in Bless This House also crops up in this delightful little film.

By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
I enjoyed this film for it's storyline and music. The added bonus was some location filming in I believe Brighton Hippodrome. The film quality was at times a bit bleached out and I wasn't sure if it was a bit foggy when they filmed. The sound is good and the overall atmosphere is happy and nostalgic. Avril Angers has a good role as the eccentric cook of the guest house around which the story is baseed. This is a sequel to David Hemmings earlier "Live it Up" also directed by Lance Comfort.

This delightful little film set in the sixties before it was really swinging has David Hemmings before he was a star.He plays a young lad from London whose family inherit a guest house in Brighton. He and his mates{including a young Steve Marriott of the Small Faces}end up writing a pop song as well as having fun by the sea.The bloke who plays Sid James son in Bless This House crops up in this film as well as Lionel Blairs sister,Joyce. Its all very innocent stuff and features cameos by Jerry Lee Lewis and the Nashville Teens.
