Therefore, he is flabbergasted when he finds out why she so desperately wants to find the Holy Grail. He could save her life, he should because he does not want to lose her, but does he truly dare to risk her soul by giving her his immortal kiss?
This is the first part in the Brotherhood of Blood Series of Kathryn Smith and you better brace yourself for an intense and emotional roller coaster ride. This story was such a joy to read, it made me cry, it made me laugh, I kept turning the pages faster and faster because I could not get enough of it and wanted to know how it would end.
Seldom have I felt so connected with the hero and the heroine of a story. Prudence is such a courageous, stubborn and bold woman. She knows her time on earth is limited and tries to live her life to the max, therefore she doesn't care a fat lot about propriety. Chapel is such a tormented guy, he believes that his being a vampire is a punishment from God, that he is a monster, he does not see all the good things he has done and how this effects other people. Their encounters are so intense that they vibrate from the pages! If ever a couple deserves a happy ending, it is this couple. Your heart just cries out for them.
Except for Father Molyneux and Marcus Grey, who we will meet again later on in this series, the supporting cast of characters is charming but definitely subordinate to the primary characters. This story is all about the plot and the relationship between Prudence and Chapel. With this first part Kathryn Smith lays the foundation of the Brotherhood of Blood and a stunning, original and intriguing plot that will have its grand finale much later on in this series, it undoubtedly will rise your blood pressure!
This addictive and dazzling story will pull at all your heartstrings! It is masterfully written and researched with charming characters of debt. This story will grab you and keep you glued to your seat! I am looking forward to read the next Brotherhood of Blood novel, because this one left me breathless!

Chapel used to be a courageous yet arrogant man, who feared nothing. He penetrated their barriers, defeated their guardians, and drank from the cup. However, he has found a reason to live when his eyes feast upon brave Prudence Ryland, but she is dying from ovarian cancer. Her only hope to live rests with drinking from the same cup that has condemned Chapel to be outside anything holy. However, he offers an alternative means to eternity; his passionate kiss of death and rebirth if he dares.
This is a magnificent vampire romance with an intriguing plot twist involving Prudence's health making her choices between unlife and death. The story line is fast-paced as Chapel wonders whether he should condemn his beloved to a life of sorrow and regret though he admits love makes it worth while. Pru is a fabulous protagonist symbolizing much more than a strong protagonist with a dilemma; she embodies life's complexities of much of the modern biological ethics debate; this inside a paranormal romance will have readers toast Kathryn Smith for this excellent thought provoking thriller!!!! I'd also recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!!

Well i must admit i've not quite finished this book, but am only around 10% from doing so and have enjoyed the story thus far.
Although a little slower paced than most books in this genre, it's not boring and there's enough good character interaction and events happening to keep you interested (despite those interactions and events being less action-packed than some might have expected). I also took into account that this is the first in the series and thus probably has to explain more so as to be introductory. I can't say this is the best book i've read, its not, but its far from the worst.
Part of what attracted me to this series is that its not a contemporary setting - and there are certainly not enough supernatural/romance novels that are not contemporary of late. The way the writer presents the era is also straight forward and not likely to confuse anyone - i've little knowledge of the era but found very few references that made me pause and think. Yet for that, the atmosphere and character behaviours still reflect the times, and to me at least, made it all that more interesting to read.
I enjoyed it but as I said, it is slow at times. A nice read for a quiet afternoon. I shall be getting the sequels once my pay check arrives :)
